Mother tongue is the best medium for communication
Srinagar, March 25 (Scoop News) –Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah reiterated his pledge to contribute towards the development of Kashmiri language and urged intellectuals, writers and poets to contribute for the language to encourage the young generation to adopt the mother tongue for communication in the society. He said that the Kashmiri language has rich diversity which should be utilized by the students and scholars of Kashmiri language besides make use of the literature in developing the language.
The Union Minister was speaking during the inauguration of 3-day State Poetry Festival organized by Indian Council for Cultural Relations at Radio Kashmir, Srinagar Auditorium here today.
A large number of intellectuals, writers, poets and renowned musicians participated in the inaugural function which was organized by the Regional Director of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Aiyaz Rasook Nazki. The aim of this function is to make people aware about the measures to be taken for sustaining and flourishing of the language.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah lauded the rich tradition of Kashmiri language besides its rich creative potential. He said that efforts have been made to give preference and importance to our mother tongue and have introduced Kashmiri language in the educational institutions of the Valley. He said that Kashmiri language has its own civilization and culture which should be preserved for the posterity.
Lauding the efforts of Sheri Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, the Union Minister said that Kashmiri language was introduced not only as the part and parcel of our syllabus in educational institutions but was also a medium of institutions introduced by him. He also appreciated the efforts of Radio Kashmir for the development of the language. Kashmiri language has been responsible for maintaining brotherhood among the people of the Valley. He said that Kashmiri Pandits are part and parcel of the Valley and hoped their early return for giving impetus to the cultural activities especially development of Kashmiri language.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah also advocated for the assistance to be given to the intellectuals and artists who worked for development of Kashmiri language and released Rs. 5 lakh out of his MPLAD for their financial assistance on the occasion.
The Union Minister also assured that a Committee shall be established which shall submit its report for improving the economic status of deserving writers, artists and intellectuals who have contributed for the flourishing of mother tongue in the Valley.
Various personalities including Prof. Rehman Rahi, Amin Kamil, Prof. Firaq, Rashid Nazki, Ghulam Nabi Khayal, Margoob Banhali, Brij Hali, Farooq Nazki, renowned musicians Ghulam Qadir Langoo, Mtr. Raj Begum, Ustad Ghulam Mohammad Saznawaz, Krishen Langoo and Mtr. Santosh were awarded on the occasion for their contribution in the literature of Kashmiri language.
Among others, Prof. Rehman Rahi and Deputy Director General, Radio Kashmir, Bashir Arif also spoke on the occasion.
The function was attended by Rafiq Raaz, Prof. Mohammad Zaman Azarda, Abdul Aziz Hajni, Shafaq Sopori, Payara Hatash and other Kashmiri Pandit intellectuals and various media persons.
