Ex PYC president, BSP general secretary join PDP
Jammu, March 26 (Scoop News) – Reiterating resolve of his party to restore peace and tranquillity in Jammu and Kashmir, patron of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that the PDP has earned faith and credibility of the residents of Jammu and Kashmir through its convictions and commitments.
“Getting power in not the only agenda of PDP, our party is movement to change destiny of the people and to establish a system of justice and equality in Jammu and Kashmir”, Mufti said, while addressing a function to welcome Choudhary Najib Ullah, a young leader as well as state general secretary of BSP and Mirza Muzaffar Beg, former president of Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC) who joined PDP along with hundreds of their supporters today.
“PDP has emerged as a strong and genuine voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and this is the biggest achievement of our party”, he said and asserted that PDP has challenged hegemony of National Conference by providing an alternative to the people.
Mufti said that with the strength of just 16 MLAs in 2002, PDP had changed political discourse of the State and restored dignity and honour of the people Jammu and Kashmir. “It was result of our convictions that successive governments at New Delhi had supported whenever steps we had taken during our tenure”, he said and reminded that previous NDA regime headed by Atal Behari Vajpayee and present UPA government headed by Dr Manmohan Singh have endorsed PDP’s view points on Kashmir. He further said that his party has pioneered a political and economic agenda to establish sustainable peace in the subcontinent and to fulfill wishes and aspirations of all regions and sub-regions of the State.
“Our party, through its pro-peace policies, has consolidated reconciliation process and facilitated the efforts of establishing lasting peace in this region”, he said but regretted that the present regime has derailed the whole process of peace and development. “Prevailing chaos and instability is outcome of the wrong policies of the present regime”, he said but asserted that PDP would continue to work for peace and stability in this region.
Highlighting achievements of the party after 2002, Mufti said that it was result of the efforts of the PDP that peoples' faith was revived in democratic institutions.
Mufti hoped that with today’s joining the party would be strengthened in the State in general and Jammu region in particular as both the leadership have mass following and experience.
