Legislative Assembly & council express grief over death of school children
Speaker directs Govt. to check vehicle fitness, license of drivers

Jammu, April 5 (Scoop News) –The Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Mubarak Gul today directed the Government to check licences of School Bus drivers and fitness of the buses used by the educational institutions in the State. He also directed constitution of two committees comprising Divisional Commissioners of Kashmir and Jammu, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir & Jammu ranges, Directors of School Education, Kashmir and Jammu and RTOs of these two regions. These two Committee have been asked to give their report within a fortnight.


This direction was given by the Speaker in response to a resolution moved by M. Y. Tarigami regarding loss of precious lives of school children in Anantnag district yesterday.

The House expressed grief over the loss of precious lives and conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for speedy recovery of those injured in this incident. The House also prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and courage to the next of kins of the deceased families to bear the irreparable losses.
The House later stood up for two minutes silence and passed a resolution in this regard.
The Speaker said that earlier a House Committee headed by MLA M. Y. Tarigami was constituted to look into the road mishaps and the Committee had already submitted its report. Gul assured the House that Government will be asked to submit action taken report in this regard.


Chairman Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra and the members of the House expressed grief and sorrow over the death of nine school children, who died yesterday in a bus accident at Anantnag.
Expressing sympathies with bereaved families, the Chairman termed the accident heartrending and unfortunate.
He directed the Government to take necessary steps for checking such incidents.
