CEC Leh asks people to keep Leh clean

Leh, April 6 (Scoop News) –In view of fast approaching tourist season and to give a facelift to Leh town, a six days massive cleanliness drive of Leh town began today which was flagged off by the Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh Rigzin Spalbar at Leh Polo-ground today. As many as 300 students from various Govt. and Private educational institutions of Leh, people of Stalam, Skyanos-Gogsum and Stago-Filok, members of some NGOs and the workers of Municipal Committee Leh participated in the drive which was carried out in the main Khar-yok area on the first day of this campaign.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner Tsering Morup Leh, AD Tourism, Sonam Dorjey, Councilor Tsering Angmo, heads and representatives of Hotel Association, Travel and Trade Association, Merchant Association and Taxi Operator’s Union participated in the cleanliness drive.

Speaking on the occasion, CEC said that this campaign is just aimed at to sensitize the local residents about the importance of cleanliness, but in usual, the people themselves needs to understand their responsibility and keep their locality hygienic not only for their own better health but to uphold their dignity as well. Spalbar said that Leh old town has been witnessing huge traffic of foreign as well as domestic tourists, and in such way, if we fail to keep our town neat and clean, we would loss our pride and dignity. Our forefathers were very much responsive and conscious about the worth of cleanliness, the CEC said and adding that this values needs to be passed onto our younger generation to make them more responsible. CEC appealed all the residents of Leh town to work collectively to keep their locality clean throughout the year saying that those thrives to keep their mohollas dirt free , the LAHDC would suitably reward them. At the same time , CEC indicated of penalizing those individuals who resort to spread dirt in the streets breaking the rules.
During the 6 days campaign, cleanliness drive shall be carried out in various hamlets of Leh town.
