NC goes into election, seeking bodies of its own victims: Mehbooba
Srinagar, April 9 (Scoop News) –Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti today said that the National Conference after hanging its victims is trying to exploit the return of their bodies as political capital to mislead people. Addressing a press conference here today she said NC hanged Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru and is now trying to use the demand for the return of their mortal remains for its election campaign. Similarly it hanged raishumari in 1975 and autonomy in 2000 by selling out both to stay in power on most humiliating terms and is now raking up their return in view of elections. She said the power projects were sold out by successive NC governments to NHPC since 1975 and now Omar Abdullah includes their return in his political wish list.
Mehbooba said peace process and governance are the worst victims of present government. Omar Abdullah and his propaganda machine, she said are trying to project his one off speech against Delhi a year as peace process while he facilitates hangings and orders atrocities against his people. She said whenever the chief minister is under pressure because of his misdeeds he spits fire against New Delhi and its agencies and organizations but Dr Farooq Abdullah balances these hollow rants by his favorite line; we will shed every drop of blood for India and that ‘ my son is fighting for the nation against rebellious Kashmiris’.

She said that chaos and confusion at political level as the NC is gripped by a sense of impending disaster for it. One day it announces a unilateral alliance and on another it seeks 'other options'. While that would have been an issue within the coalition and not for us to comment upon but it has added to the feeling of anarchy in the administration which affects everybody's life. The chief minister looks like a helpless prisoner of the vested interest on administrative front, morally disabled because of serious questions about his own conduct and resorting only to sloganeering.

To shore up its political fortunes NC is up to its old games. Now it wants to go into election seeking two dead bodies, of Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru and a skeleton, that of autonomy; all the three a result of its own, compromises for power, misdeeds and crimes. Even that might not have been a subject of relevance but for the total collapse of the system of governance we are witnessing while the chief minister's party is busy building bunkers for itself and securing luxuries of life,Mehbooba said .

She told reporters that even after a 78 percent increase record increase in power tariff the supply position has touched an all time low. The power situation has slipped almost back to the pre 2002 situation when we used to have a one hour supply a day. All the improvement brought about between 2002 and 2008 has been undone. This in spite of the fact that since 2008 around 500 MW power has been added to state's own generation after the completion of Baghlihar and many mini hydel projects. Accusing PDP for the failures of present government comes as an easy excuse to NC. That they are doing in present power crisis also. But people still remember how the PDP had ensured an over night improvement in power position from November 2002 itself immediately after taking over and ensuring no power cuts in Ramzan and later continuing with the reform. All that was reversed with the arrival of present government that has made life miserable for people of all sections especially the poorer ones.
She alleges that scams are tumbling out of the government closet everyday. There is tell tale proof of an open loot with all the transparency institutions made defunct. But the brazen plunder of people's money is now becoming a life threatening menace as is evident from the spurious drug scam. By now there should have been arrests in the case as it involves matters of life and death. To the contrary there is not even a proper statement from the government on this subject. It was reported that even an official included in the list of suspects is part of the departmental investigation. That much for the expectation of a fair probe. There has not been any action against anyone in the infamous mass deaths of children in the the children hospital Srinagar. That must have emboldened the culprits all across the administration particularly the health sector.

Mehbooba alleged that the chief minister and Dr Farooq Abdullah who is the president of NC both have lost moral and political authority to ask questions about any body's integrity as both of them face serious charges which could have led anybody else to jail. A fair criminal investigation in Haji Yousuf case and the Rs 50 crore cricket association scam was thwarted and officers who helped the ruling family were rewarded. The feeling of impunity among ministers and their agents in administration is therefore understandable as they know there is nobody to call them to account.
