Revival of the Silk Route:Growing Role of India
Jammu, April 9 (Scoop News) –The Union Minister for Renewable Energy and the National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah released the book on “Revival of the Silk Route: Growing Role of India” authored by Dr. Mohammad Monir Alam, Department of Strategic and Regional Studies, University of Jammu, Jammu. The book function was organized by ‘J&K Forum for Peace and Reconciliation’ on April 7, 2013 at Hotel Asia.
This book primarily focuses upon the “Great Silk Route” that refers to a series of trans-continental trade routes crossed Eurasia from Ist millennium B.C. and linked the people and traditions of Asia with those of Europe. These historic routes served as a major conduit for the transport of knowledge information and material goods between east and west and resulted in the first global exchange of scientific and cultural traditions.
The growing positive tendencies and various efforts in the Eurasian region towards revival of the “Silk Route” have been strongly supported by India. After initiating various efforts to revive ancient trade route, India is trying to follow the “Silk Route” as a metaphor of its economic and trade interests in Central Asia. India has already participated in various infrastructure development projects in Iran as well as in Afghanistan to tap the economic potentials of the Eurasian states as well as enormous hydrocarbon resources of the Persian Gulf and the Caspian Sea region.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah, while releasing the book lauded the contribution of the University of Jammu. He mentioned that when Union Government announced the setting up of two Universities in the State, every body was worried about the fate of existing two old universities. But still both Central Universities are not able to cater students. But our old universities- University of Jammu and University of Kashmir are making excellent contribution in terms of publications and research outputs.
