Baisakhi Heritage Festival concludes in Jammu
Dy CM calls for promoting local art forms and culture
Jammu, April 15 (Scoop News) –Three day Baisakhi Heritage Festival came to a conclusion today at historical Mubarak Mandi complex.
Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand was chief guest at the conclusion ceremony.
The mega event which attracted crowds from all across the city and adjoining areas was organised by joint efforts of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society and Department of Tourism. During the festival the State’s rich cultural heritage and unity in diversity would was showcased through art and culture.
Prominent among those who were present on the occasion included, MLA Ashok Khajuria, Divisional Commissioner Pradeep Gupta and Director, Tourism and MMHS Soujanya Sharma.
Renowned local artists of the area presented scintillating cultural performances depicting local heritage and art forms. Food stalls serving local cuisines were highly appreciated by the people.
Star attraction of the festival was screening of a nine minute long rare footage of coronation ceremony of Maharaja Hari Singh.
Appreciating efforts of the Tourism and Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society, the Deputy Minister said that the event has become hugely popular among the people and more such festivals need to be organized. Such occasions give an opportunity to the people to know about their rich culture besides promoting local art forms and cultural heritage, he added.
He said the region is full of talent and festivals like these give a platform to local artists for showcasing their works.
“By celebrating local festivals we not only promote local art forms and artists but such events go a long way in making younger generations aware of their rich heritage and cultural legacy,” he said.
During the festival various art clubs and artists who presented their works included, Srijan Samooh, Satish Chalotra and K.K. Gandhi. Five day miniature Basholi Painting Camp was also started.
Responding to the demand of organizing such event on regular basis, Tara Chand said that the event should be made an annual feature and in order to make people aware of their local history special programs should be organized in the heritage complex.
