| Vakil hailed the stand taken by APHC against drug mafia | | Srinagar, April 18 (Scoop News) –Former minister and AICC member Abdul Gani Vakil today endorsed the stand taken by All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) against drug mafia and said that such issues of public importance must find mention in Hurriyat agendas. The separatist leader Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani, by raising the issue of spurious drugs being sold in open and a syndicate running this nexus, has touched the right cord which will help rinse out evils from our society.
Speaking on the occasion, Vakil hoped that Hurriyat will also come forward in a bigger way to launch a tirade against those corrupt politicians, bureaucrats and executives who had been looting state exchequer since long. This is indeed a welcome step that Hurriyat leaders have started to come forward, understand people’s worries and miseries and also raise their voice against social evils. Vakil was addressing a party workers convention at Tulsi Bagh Srinagar organized by Indian National Trade Union Congress. Convention was presided by Farooq Ahmad Wangnoo Sr. Vice President INTUC.
While addressing the gathering Vakil However, said this fight against corrupt, social evils, dishonest people and nonperformers will have to be taken to a logical conclusion for which members of civil society, separatist leaders, politicians and social activists drawn from all walks of life must all come forward and root out such people eating into vitals of our society. The basic root cause of prevailing unrest amongst masses and especially youth is rising levels of corruption which need to be checked here only.
Vakil appealed Congress high command and AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi to initiate action against corrupt ministers who have not only deprived people of their rights, looted state exchequer, amassed huge wealth but also defamed and damaged Congress party in a big way. These ministers and politicians have made the future prospectus of party miserable and an action as warranted against them must be initiated to send a message amongst masses that Congress cannot tolerate such corrupt people but is for credibility and transparency in the system.
Vakil said that if such corrupt people are let go, the party will face damages in next assembly elections. Since we have to go to people to seek votes such corrupt people must be either shown doors or denied party mandate as they have excessively damaged the party image. If no action is taken against corrupt, Congress will have to face ire of people which would be detrimental, He said adding that time has come to clean the system and get rid of non-performers.
The former minister and AICC member expressed his astonishment over the manner chief minister Omar Abdullah was working and said that so many scandals have surfaced in past four years but the incumbent has preferred to maintain a silence.
It was during the past four years that rupees 560 crore have been swindled in education department, buildings under SSA have not been completed, over 3000 works have been allotted without tenders in R&B department, seeds worth crores of rupees have been distributed in agriculture department, innumerable number of appointments have been made in Local Bodies and Municipalities, illegal constructions have been allowed arbitrarily but not even in a single case chief minister has bothered to initiate any action.
Vakil stressed upon the Chief Minister to act tough and bring in some kind of transparency, accountability and credibility in the system if it intends to survive next assembly elections. AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi and AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi are both against corruption and have given chief minister a free hand to deal with corrupt and non-performers as well and Omar Abdullah must not spare dead wood damaging his government.
