Disaster Preparedness Training at Girls Sec. School

Srinagar, May 8 (Scoop News) –Civil Defence organised five days disaster preparedness training programme at Govt. Girls Secondary School, Pandrethan, Srinagar from today. 70 students, both boys and girls from Govt. Girls Secondary and Govt. Middle Schools Pandrethan are participating in the training, including one regular student Adil, who also attended the training, but in a wheel chair, as he is suffering from Polio, since childhood.


The programme was inaugurated by Shahzada Ahmed Shah, Headmaster Govt Girls Secondary School, in presence of Er. Aamir Ali, Dy. Chief Warden, Civil Defence. The training has been organised at the request of the school, by Civil Defence, in collaboration with School Education Deptt, Red Cross, Fire Services, SMC & District Administration Srinagar on the instructions of Addl. Director General of Police, Civil Defence, HG and SDRF, Ms. D.R. Dolly Barman.


On the first day of the training the students were made aware of their vulnerability to natural and human-induced disasters and that children and persons with disabilities are more vulnerable; as such it was emphasized the importance to learn life-saving skills, so that in the event of any emergency, the students could protect themselves, as well as others. The students will be imparted basic training about Civil Defence, First Aid, Fire Fighting, Search and Rescue by CD trainers Ghulam Nabi, Mohammed Hussain, Shabir Ahmed Pal and. The programme was supported by ASI(M) Shabir Ahmed Khan, Officiating Dy. Controller CD, HC Ghulam Rasool, SI Nazir Ahmed and Abid Hussain from CD Srinagar.

The students will also be trained by First Aid experts, including Dr IPS Bali and Mohammed Akbar Dar, Dy. Dir. and training expert from Fire Services, who will demonstrate fire fighting techniques to the students. A fire drill and mock drill will also be held on the conclusion of the programme. Certificates of participation will be issued to each student attending the training.
