| 166 military hospital observes World Asthma Day at Jammu | |  Jammu, May 8 (Scoop News) –On the occasion of World Asthma Day, Rashmi Hooda, President AWWA White Knight Corps paid visit to 166 Military Hospital to interact with Asthmatic Children and their parents, today. She was accompanied by Brig Pawan Kapoor, Brig Medical, White Knight Corps. On her arrival at Hospital, she was received by Sushma Harjai, Convenor of Family Welfare Organisation, 166 Military Hospital and Brigadier Man Mohan Harjai, Commandant of the Hospital.
She was briefed by Col Shashi Bhushan and Maj Badal, both renowned paediatricians, on the various use of asthma care related medical equipments. She met with children suffering from asthma and asked their well being.
An annual event was organized by the 166 Military Hospital to improve the asthma awareness and care among their clientele. The theme of the day was "It's Time to Control your Asthma." The useful information on bronchial asthma was provided to the target audience, patients and parents of affected children in the form of parent friendly asthma diary. All asthma suspected patients were thoroughly evaluated with advanced tests i.e. pulmonary function test and were offered free consultation by specialists. The Commandant of the Hospital, Brig Harjai said that around 30 crore people across the world are victims of asthma and the cases of acute asthma are increasing day by day due to increasing air pollution of the environment by uncontrolled emission from various sectors and continuous endless construction work across the country. He also stressed that many patients, once they feel better, stop treatment after few weeks. This can be dangerous since stopping treatment can aggravate the disease and precipitate an acute attack. The proper medication can help in controlling asthma, but in India it has been found that compliance to asthma medication is very poor and tends to falter after few months in both children and adults. The rate of non-adherence has been estimated to be around 50%. This hospital is running a weekly asthma clinic on Wednesdays in Paediatric OPD and providing comprehensive care including monitoring of lung functions and motivating children for appropriate use of asthma devices.
Poster competition was also organised by the Military Hospital on the theme World Asthma Day. Mrs Rashmi Hooda was the chief judge of the competition. She distributed the prizes for the best three posters. There were patient oriented lucid presentations and demonstration of various asthma devices and their correct use. The exhibition stall catered to perform pulmonary function tests (Spirometry). Various posters on the theme of World Asthma Day were displayed by Station Health Organisation. The entire function was anchored by Maj Deepti.
Rashmi Hooda admired and appreciated the comprehensive health care provided by this prestigious hospital whose motto is “Care with Compassion”. She emphasized on routine follow up and continuing asthma medication as advised by the specialist. As a good will gesture, she distributed sweets and gifts to the children for their active participation in this programme.
