JK villages to be connected with cities, towns: Sakina
Srinagar, May 9 (Scoop News) – Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo today said that government is very much committed to connect every village with towns, cities and provide requisite amenities to them particularly better road connectivity, health care, safe drinking water, quality education etc.
The Minister was addressing a large public gathering at a far far-flung area near Peer Panjal hills at village Hilmitroo-Akahal in district Kulgam.
The Minister said that many long pending demands like bye pass Akahal road, high school, providing of portable water in Gujar Basti area etc have already been met by this government and added that, 2 Kms Khulshan-Hilmitroo road is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 134 lakhs while the work on the project has already been done worth Rs 25 lakhs against Rs 19 lakhs released so far this project. She said that breast and retaining walls are already in progressed
Ms. Sakina said that the directions have already been given to extend Khulshan-Hilmitroo road to Gujar Basti, so that the people of the concerned area avail benefits of the transport. She asked the executing agency R&B to expedite the work of the project and assured that the necessary steps would be taken to make the road comfortable for people of the concerned areas during the current financial year.
Ms Sakina also directed the concerned agencies for widening of 8 Kms Chowgam-Lamad-Branyal and 9 Kms Devsar-Akahal-Kulgam, so that the transport may function smoothly on these roads.
On the occasion, she announced Rs 1.50 lakhs for the fencing of graveyard of said village from her CDF.
The Minister said that the government is making every effort to provide quality amenities to the people of rural areas and making the rural areas at par with urban areas. She said more than 75 per cent of the issues and demands of her constituency have been fulfilled by the present government under the dynamic leadership of Omar Abdullah and added that government making every effort to redress all the grievances of the people in phased manner.
Listing the achievements of the present government, she said that Acts like Public Service Guarantee and Right to Information have been passed and enforced for prompt delivery of services and corruption less e-governance in the State. She said that after more than 30 years Panchayat elections have been held in the State and the common people have been involved in the development of rural areas through Panchayat Raj Institutions and the powers of 14 department have been given to PRIs, so that the elected Panchs and Sarpanches may directly monitor the development process and other functions of the government on the ground levels.
On the occasion, the Minister also distributed 14 old pension cards among the beneficiaries and added that efforts are on to provide succour to widows and other economically week sections.
Responding to the demands of the locals like opening of timber depot widening and macademization of Akahal bye pass road, extension of Khulshan-Hilmitroo road Gujar Basti, installation of 25 KV electricity transformer, upgrading of health centre etc. The Minister issued the directions on the spot to the concerned officers to go through the demands and asked for taking early steps to fulfil the demands of the locals.
On the occasion, senior officers of the district Kulgam and other local leaders were present.
