We should not forget the sacrifices of 13 media persons of J&K:DGP | Pays rich tributes to late Sodhi | Jammu, May 12 (Scoop News) –-Describing late Ashok Sodhi as a professional photo journalist, Director General of Police Ashok Prasad said that he was always front runner in covering the various media related activities in proper way. The DGP was addressing media fraternity at a function organized by Jammu Print and Electronic Media Association to commemorate the contributions in the field of media and to pay tributes on the death anniversary of late Sodhi. Late Sodhi, Chief Cameraman, was associated with leading daily Newspaper Daily Excelsior, Jammu for more than two decades, who sacrificed his life while covering the encounter between the security forces and militants at Samba on May 11, 2002. A group of militants had infiltrated into Indian Territory in Samba sector, Jammu intercepted with security forces resulting in an encounter. Late Sodhi, while performing his professional duties was hit by a militant bullet causing his martyrdom on the spot. He was a professional Still Cameraman, who was always on forefront in covering such incidents and bringing the first information to the public. He was always cooperative with the JK Police and other security agencies. The DGP said that a number of Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security forces personnel offered supreme sacrifices of their precious lives while fighting with militancy in the state. Prasad said that media fraternity also stood by the law enforcing agencies in bringing the peace and normalcy in the state. Many brave media persons had also lost their precious lives while performing their professional duties on different occasions. We are thankful to the media fraternity for their wholehearted cooperation and would always remember their sacrifices, they offered for the safety and integrity of the nation. The DGP said the brave journalists faced the different situations with fortitude and never compromised on their professional duties. We should not forget the sacrifices of 13 media persons of the state, who had lost their lives in dealing with the situations. Besides, we should follow the path of dedication for duty opted by our late brethren and should take the noble mission ahead for welfare and prosperity of the state. On this occasion, we should affirm that the families of the brave martyrs would never be forgotten and it would be prime responsibility of the society to provide helping hand to their families. A photo exhibition of the photos of prepared by late Sodhi was also put on exhibition on the occasion. The DGP went round of the exhibition and appreciated the photos depicting the professionalism. ... |
