Kashmir girl becomes editor of Global Children’s Newspaper
Srinagar, May 13 (Scoop News) –Iflah Qureshi, a Kashmiri student became the first girl editor of a global children’s newspaper "The Peace Gong". The newspaper was released by ZalmaiWafamal (First Secretary, Political and Press), Embassy of the Republic of Afghanistan during Global Youth Service Day celebrations 2013 in New Delhi on May 10, 2013. The latest issue of the Peace Gong written for and by children in India and beyond, has been dedicated to post-2015 development agenda. Five young students from the state contributed their inspiring write ups to the issue.
On the occasion, IflahQureshi, Class XII student and Editor of the Peace Gong wrote, “Our newspaper, The Peace Gong promotes diversity and helps in facilitating dialogue amongst young people from different cultures and communities. This can be a powerful vehicle to help young people to come together and work for global peace.”
Javed Naqi, Advisor and Local Mentor adds, "The Peace Gong is a global children's newspaper aimed at giving young people a platform to write and develop understanding of issues of social concern. The initiative connects children from Kargil to Kerela and Agartala to Andamans and beyond to contribute for peace and development through writing and reporting".
