Drive against illicit poppy cultivation in South Kashmir
National Population Census meeting held at Anantnag
Anantnag/Srinagar, May 18 (Scoop News) –Department of Excise, Kashmir Division has initiated poppy destruction drive in districts of Anantnag and Kulgam in South Kashmir here today.
In the drive, Narcotic Central Bureau, Department of Revenue and Police participated. The team destroyed illicit cultivated as well as wild poppy in the Valley of Panzath, Lowdora, Sadoora, Fetehpora, Wanpora in Tehsil Duroo and in Crendigam of Tehsil Bijbehara besides in the Valley of Gowsia Colony, Nayanpora, Reshipora, Dohbi Khai, Zirayat Galli Laroo, Kindipora and Chehlan of district Kulgam.
The people of the areas were also made aware not to grow the said crop as the offence is punishable under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and anybody found involved in such cultivation shall have to face consequences under the provision of such Act.



Meanwhile a meeting with regard to the National Population Register (NPR) was today held under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner, Anantnag, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone.
Joint Director of Census Operations J&K while making the agencies aware about the preparation of NPR told the meeting that unique Aadhaar Card will be issued after verification is a time bound activity and thus needs to be implemented without delay.
Tehsildars and Executive Officers of Municipal Committees were asked to submit the list of enumerators for completing the 2nd phase of the census successfully.
He further informed that VLW and ward officers shall be involved in Rural and Urban areas. The resident missing in first round will be issued notices to come at the 2ndphase for the preparation of data information. Permanent data base centre shall also be setup at every tehsil.
He further told that preparation of NPR will help the deserved people under various beneficiaries’ schemes and programmes, which will improve planning expenditure development.
The Anganwari Workers, Asha Workers and Panch and Sarpanchs shall also be involved in awareness camps to inform the locals at village level.
All the District Officers and Executive Officers of Municipalities also participated in the meeting.
