| LOC Trade proving encroachment on the sovereignty of India in JK | |  Jammu, May 20 (Scoop News) –The LOC Trade is proving not only scandalous but also encroachment on the sovereignty of India in Jammu and Kashmir and recoiling upon the security matters. All this needed a deep look by some independent agency instead of going under pressures of secessionists and semi secessionists operating in various guises as also self seekers.
This was observed by the former union Minister and MLA, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta while commenting upon the reports that large consignment of Chinese apples was seized by the custom Department authorities at Uri Islamabad and later on it was released mysteriously after obtaining a certificate by an expert that these apples are the product of Pakistan occupied Kashmir and the Chinese stickers were misleading.
Prof. Gupta said that apple in such a large scale are not grown in Pak held areas and moreso, the apple crop is not even in the Valley of Kashmir during these summer months. From Where these apples worth crores are getting their way in POK and then to this State as part of the LOC Trade, is a matter of serious concern, especially this consignment has coincided with the visit of Chinese Prime Minister to New Delhi.
He recalled that the LOC trade was started some five years ago as part of confidence building measure (CBM) and it was given that the products of both sides of the State would be traded under barter system and there would be no Custom Duty unlike other places along borders in India. But the fact remains that over 90 percent goods being exchanged are not actually the products of this State which have come to be a part of the Trade.
In this regard, Prof. Gupta pointed out that coconut, bananas, chillies and some such like items are not the produce of this State but are being exported to POK in huge quantity. Similarly, Peshawari Chappals, cloth, carpets, almonds and some other such like items being imported are not the production of POK. By this dubious trade not only the custom duty and other taxes are being evaded but also third country produce is getting their way in this State and being taken to other parts of the country in dubious manner and an unscrupulous type of game is going on.
More than this, Prof. Gupta also pointed out that some traders have been found utilizing this LOC trade for funding Hawala money to ultras and separatists. Some cases have already surfaced and mysteriously tackled.
Earlier, there were reports about Chinese carpet finding their way to various parts of India and the seizure and release of Chinese apples, is quite a serious matter which must be looked into with various angles including that of third Country involvement.
He further said that such measures of making castles in the air would not work for having trust and confidence unless Pakistan changes her policies linked with proxy war and withdraw the support to cross border terror. The subversion and friendship cannot go together, Prof. Gupta added and stressed being realistic.
