NIELIT sub-centre to be opened at Leh :Dr. Killi | inaugurates lecture block at NIELIT centre Srinagar | Srinagar, May 23 (Scoop News) –Union Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Killi Kruparani, inaugurated Lecture Block and R&D Lab at National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) at SIDCO Electronics Complex, Rangreth here today. Union Secretary, Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) Sh. J. Satyanarayana and Union Joint Secretary R. K. Goyal accompanied the Minister. The Lecture Block, comprising of 2 lecture rooms in the NIELIT Campus, have been constructed by the J&K State Industrial Development Corporation at a cost of Rs 40 lakh which will suffice the requirement to enhance the intake capacity of the MCA Programme from the existing 150 to 180 students, besides introducing new University affiliated programmes like M. Sc IT. The R&D lab has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.34 crore will help the NIELIT in implementing 2 R&D projects. The Minister was informed that the NIELIT Srinagar has recently initiated R&D activities in Wireless Sensor Networks in the State for which the Institute is currently implementing two R&D Projects sponsored by the Union Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY). She was further informed that these projects include Real Time Monitoring of Water Quality of Dal Lake Srinagar using Wireless Sensor Network with a cost of Rs 87.28 lakh and capacity building in WSN Security and Training in the State with the project cost of Rs 52.70 lakh. The Minister was informed that the objectives of the projects were to design and develop a prototype of field deployable Real Time Wireless Sensor Network for monitoring the water quality of Dal Lake. Through this project, the parameters of PH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, temperature and ORP shall be monitored. Speaking on the occasion the Minister, who is on 3-day tour of the State, said that the setting of new standards and benchmarks for education in the Information Technology and Electronics Sector is high on the agenda of the Central Government, adding that this will significantly contribute to the growth of Jammu and Kashmir State. Dr. Kruparani said that the NIELIT is playing vital role in spreading IT education all over in the country. She said that the Information Technology is penetrating into every walk of life thereby necessitating each and every individual to have suitable IT skills to carry out his own day to day activities. She said owing to the gap in the demand and supply of skilled manpower, the National IT Policy addresses the requirements of physical and institutional infrastructure for creating a pool of 10 million trained persons in IT Sector by the year 2020 through the formal and non-formal sectors with focus on development of skills and expertise. The Union Minister hoped that the NIELIT, Srinagar will produce technical personnel enable them to serve the nation as leaders, researchers, entrepreneurs and innovators in the field of Information Technology. The Director, NIELIT, Srinagar, A. H. Moon highlighted the activities of the Institutions through a power point presentation. He said that the NIELIT which has been established in 1983 in Srinagar in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Government has been undertaken various academic activities and has a network of over 150 accredited centres across the State. A Sub-centre of NIELIT by is also being set up at Leh during this fiscal to reach out uncovered areas for which a proposal of Rs. 4.80 lakh has been submitted to the Union Ministry of IT and Communication for funding. Moon said that the institute has undertaken major projects and consultancy in the State which include National Population Register (NPR), Computer based typing test of 18,000 candidates for SSRB, Computer Networking Projects of over 150 government/non-governmental organisations, repair and maintenance of Hospital equipment, development of e-continents for CCC course in Urdu, Kashmiri and Dogri languages, development of websites/portals and Computer Forensic Labs. The Director said that during last 10 years the institution has imparted Computer training to 11,000 State government employees, 6,500 Indian Army and Air Force personnel, 3,100 Police sponsored candidates, 3,000 teachers, 3,200 under ITeS-BPO, over 15,000 under basic Computer literacy programmes, 2,200 under corporate training and over 350 Sarpanchs and Panchs.
