3-day JK State level Kabbadi tournament concludes
Taj distributes prizes

Srinagar, June 14 (Scoop News) –The three day state level inter- district Kabbadi tournament which took off on June 10 concluded today amidst a colourful finale. The tournament was played at Bakshi stadium and it was organized by Department of Youth Services & Sports.
Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services & Sports, Taj Mohi ud Din, the chief guest on the concluding function distributed prizes among the players.
Addressing the function, the Minister said that time has come when the hidden talent of the youth of the state would be explored properly and the day is not far when many of the youth from J&K would be making it to the nationals. He said the State Government has given sports a relook and the sports infrastructure across the State is being upgraded. He said every block in the State would have a sports complex and every panchayat would have a playfield.
Taj said the Centre has agreed to a sports package to the State under which the sports infrastructure would be upgraded and strengthened. He said under the package every town would have an indoor stadium and all the existing stadia in the State would be equipped with sports equipment.
All the districts of the State except Leh took part in the tournament with an attendance of 260 players playing 52 matches. The teams which qualified for semi finals included teams of Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch and Kathua.
The final was played between Jammu and Rajouri and it was won by Rajouri district.
An important feature of the tournament was that the State team to play at national level would be chosen out of it as per the calendar framed by National School Games Federation of India.
The Department of Youth Services & Sports had made elaborate arrangements for the boarding and lodging of the players.
Meanwhile the Minister also inaugurated 13th North Zone Carrom championship this morning. The championship is being organized by J&K Carrom Association with the support of J&K State Sports Council. Six teams are participating in the three day long championship.
Today in the men’s category, Haryana, Chandigrah and Uttranchal beat Punjab, J&K and Punjab respectively whileas in women’s category, J&K, Haryana and Chandigrah beat Haryana,Uttranchal and Punjab.
The finals would be played on June 16.
