NC committed to victory of secular forces : Rana

Nagrota, March 13, (Scoop News)- Urging people to defeat the demon of communalism with full might, Provincial President National Conference Mr Devender Singh Rana on Thursday predicted massive victory for secular forces in ensuing parliamentary elections.
“Bidding adieu to political ethics, the plank of these elections have been set by the reactionary and fascist forces to polarise society by exploiting religious sentiments to garner support, the Provincial President said while addressing a day-long delegate session of the party functionaries here, adding “onus lies on the people to marginalise these elements”.
The Provincial President referred to behind-the- scene machinations of Bharatya Janata Party and the Peoples Democratic Party, saying their modus-operandi will be to incite passions in one region for generating negative reactions in the other and vice-versa to polarise the situation. “This is their tested weapon which they used to the hilt during 2008”, he said while exhorting the people to defeat this vicious plan as they did in the past.
Mr Rana gave sequence of events from Amarnath land row agitation to the support extended by BJP to PDP’s proxy candidate in Legislative Council elections and said they got exposed for remaining hand-in-glove during unfortunate events in Kishtwar. “These are not isolated incidents but part of the larger game plan of the two reactionary parties to weaken National Conference for grabbing power”, he said, adding that a whisper campaign has already been set in motion to generate an impression that BJP and PDP will be joining hands after the Assembly elections.
The Provincial President made mention of the upcoming elections to Lok Sabha and asked the party functionaries to work for the success of Congress candidates. “This will be vote for the secular and people friendly policies of National Conference besides strengthening the hands of Dr Farooq Abudullah and Chief Minister Mr Omar Abdullah”. Mr Rana said that the party cadre will work with a sincerity of purpose to carry forward the directives of the High Command.
Lauding the efforts of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in steering the state to peace, progress and development during past five and half years, Mr Rana said that nobody will be allowed to undermine J&K’s journey from uncertainty to stability.
Addressing the session, State Vice President Th Kashmira Singh said National Conference will take all necessary steps for strengthening secular forces with an avowed objective of keeping the communal, divisive and destructive elements at bay. He sought people’s cooperation in maintaining the momentum of programmes undertaken for development and welfare of the people.
Reiterating the party’s commitment to maintaining unity of the three regions of the state, senior leader Babu Ram Paul urged the people to foil the attempts of those trampling the secular ethos of the state. He referred to the initiatives taken by the Omar Abdullah led government in providing equal opportunities of progress and development to all the three regions and their sub-regions.
