| Sahu reviews distribution of relief, restoration works | | Jammu, September 15, (Scoop News)- Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Ajeet Kumar Sahu today visited Railway Station Jammu, Bhagwati Nagar, Sidhra, Narwal, Talab Khatikan, Gujjar Nagar, Peerkho and other area of the City to take stock of restoration of damaged infrastructures, processing and providing of ex-gratia relief and functioning of the relief camps where free food is being provided to the affected/stranded passengers.
DC gave directions to all the concerned Departments to work with zeal and dedication to achieve the deadlines fixed for restoration of damaged infrastructures and public utilities. He also convened meeting of the SDMs/Tehsildars and other Revenue officers in which progress of processing of ex-gratia relief cases was reviewed and directed Revenue Officers to immediately attend to the problems faced by the public and ensure disposal off their grievances in time bound manner. He asked the Officers to visit the affected areas and project the problems and requirement of the affected persons so that their sufferings are mitigated.
As reported by SDMs/Tehsildars, about 3300 residential structures have been fully damaged while 17700 have been damaged partially. In addition to this, 6000 non-residential structures have been damaged fully while 1600 non-residential structures have been damaged partially. Further, 1144 livestock perished and about more 70000 kanals of crops/agriculture fields have been affected due to flash floods/landslides. Revenue Officers presented in the meeting stated that assessment of losses/damages have been done in more than 50 percent of the total cases and disbursement of ex-gratia relief has also been started in some of the areas. Deputy Commissioner directed the Officers to complete the exercise of providing of ex-gratia relief within 15 days.
Assessment Teams constituted by the Deputy Commissioner, under the control of SDMs/Tehsildars are also visiting their respective areas and furnishing report of damages and processing of ex-gratia relief cases and restoration work on daily basis.
Deputy Commissioner arranged and supplied 17 Tonnes of food material to the flood affected areas in Jammu and Srinagar with the help of NGOs namely Save the Children. Presently free ration from CAPD, tents, blankets, tarpaulin sheets, ready to eat food packs, medicines and other necessities are being provided to the affected people under SDRF/NDRF norms, from District Red Cross Society and with the help of NGOs.
Special relief camps has also been established where free food and other basic amenities have been provided to the stranded persons. Presently special relief camps are running at Talab Khatikan, Narwal, Railway Station, Kargil House, Bhagwati Nagar & a mobile camp at Nagrota especially for drivers where free food & other facilities are provided to the affected/stranded persons.
Health Department on the directions of District Administration constituted two mobile units with doctors and medicines who are visiting at least eight villages per day from each block of Jammu district. Malaria Staff is also doing anti-malaria spray under the supervision of concerned Block Medical Officer in the areas where water logging persists. Health Department in collaboration with PHE Department are chlorinating water reservoirs by using chlorine tablets. Chlorine tables have also been distributed in the affected periphery areas and have also been provided to ASHAs for judicious use. In addition to this, additional medical supply has also been provided to each block for meeting out the requirement. Today teams of doctors visited Kot Bhalwal, Mathwar, Ranjan, Gharota, Thathi, Chak Kirpalpur, Jourian, Kot Ghari, Badyal Chak and other areas. Medical Camps were organized at various places of the District where besides free medical check and free medicines have also been provided. Further Medical teams also visited Talab Khatikan, Bhagwati Nagar, Railway Station, Kargil House and other Relief Camps where patients have been treated and free medicines also provided.
The road connectivity in rural area, including far flung area of Tawi Island suffered damage. In Pargwal area, due to change course of River Chenab, road connectivity to Village Hamirpurkona and Pargwal Island was totally cut off and population of area was evacuated to safer places, but same restored within 24 hours. Out of 573 affected villages/habitations, road connectivity to 456 habitations / villages stand restored partially/fully and efforts are on to complete the job by the end of October 2014.
Apart from it, Out of 48 PMGSY roads damaged 29 roads stand restored with fair weather connectivity and work on rest of the roads is in progress.
Restoration work on 4th Bridge from Warehouse side approach road is in full swing. Mandal Phallai area, connected through Army Pantoon Bridge.
In Jammu city 60 percent and in rural areas 65 percent water supply has been restored and 35 water tankers each have been pressed into service in deficient areas.
Power Supply out of 344 damaged distribution transformers, 190 have been restored fully. Out of 73, 33/11 KV Sub Stations, which suffered damages, 70 restored fully and restoration on 3 S/stns is under progress. Against the damage of HT/LT network at 43 locations in district Jammu, 41 stands fully restored and work on 4 locations in under progress. Restoration of power supply in villages namely Mandal Phallai, Sum Top, Tawi Island, Sai Kalan, Malori Jagir, etc is under progress on war footing basis.
The DC informed that 35 Mobile Ambulances have been put in service for providing immediate health care facilities to the population of such areas, which have suffered severely and sufficient stock of medicines is available to meet any eventuality alongwith a team of doctors to provide emergency health care services round the clock in affected areas.
Restoration of damages to infrastructure / public utilities in other sectors has also been taken up effectively.
