ICAR & LAHDC organizes 3rd Interface Meeting on improvement of Yak Husbandry

Leh,September 22, (Scoop News)- The 3rd Interface Meeting on improvement of Yak Husbandry and Upliftment of Socio-economic Status of Yak Rearers in the country begins today at Leh. It is for the first time, Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR)-National Research Centre on Yak Dirang Arunachal Pradesh in collaboration with Animal Husbandry Department LAHDC, Leh is organizing these 3- day interface meeting in Leh.

The inaugural session of the interface meeting was jointly chaired by Deputy Commissioner /CEO, Leh Simrandeep Singh and Dr. K.M. L Pathak, DDG (AS), ICAR, New Delhi.

Addressing the meeting DC, Leh said that it is a big opportunity for Leh to host the 3rd Interface meeting of ICAR in Leh adding that this kind of interaction will certainly benefit the yak and pashmina goat rearers of Ladakh and urged upon the participating higher authorities and doctors to give patient hearing to the breeders and project their demands while formulating the plans.

Speaking about the scope and potentials of Pashmina and Yak related business in Ladakh, DC, Leh said that a centre of ICAR-National Research Centre on Yak should be exclusively opened in Leh considering the highest population of Yaks in Ladakh and while mentioning about the ongoing Chinese incursion, he said that the livestock rearers of Changthang are the natural guardians of borders saying that army alone can’t guard the huge area of Changthang and urged the meeting to include strategic angle also while submitting their proposals to GoI.

Addressing the meeting, Dr. K.M. L Pathak, DDG (AS), ICAR, New Delhi said that ICAR is all set support Leh in development and improvement of Yak Husbandry and other potential livestock related venture and assured to organize such meetings in Leh in coming years.

Earlier, The Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Dr. Qayoom briefed the meeting about the present status of Yak in Ladkah and ongoing conservation project on Yak in Leh.

The Councilor of Changthang area also attended the meeting .
