| 1435 major surgeries, 3557 child births during flood fury | | G B Pant, Lal Ded start OPD, B&J functions normally | Srinagar, September 22, (Scoop News)- Even as the recent floods affected most of the tertiary care hospitals in the city and many hospitals in the rural Kashmir, the Department of Health & Medical Education tried to provide patient care with whatever resources available.
Statistics now available show that from September 04 to September 20, 577595 patients came to the OPDs in all the District hospitals across Kashmir valley, out of which 34577 patients were admitted for treatment. During the same period 1435 major surgeries were conducted at these hospitals besides 103160 lab tests.
2297 normal deliveries and 1260 cessarian sections were also conducted during period in these hospitals. Out of a bed strength of 1140, 1105 beds were either utilised or were functional.
During this period 145 medical camps were set up, including 62 in Srinagar city and essential medicine were provided in most of the areas.
Despite having suffered losses to the tune of Rs. 100 crore, the SMHS Hospital authorities set up a free medical camp in which patients suffering from diabetes, hypertension and other chronic ailments were given consultation and treatment.
The Bone & Joint Hospital, Barzulla was made functional immediately after the floods struck the city. The OPDs of Lal Ded, G B Pant Hospitals have been made functional after water has been drained out and clean up operations were conducted yesterday with Minister for Health & Medical Education, Taj Mohi ud Din personally supervising the operations.
The Minister has been in touch with Health authorities in Delhi despite severe connectivity breakdown in the Valley. From yesterday a vaccination campaign has been launched to administer anti meseales, polio and Vitamin A doses among children in the age group of 06 months to five years. The Department has already stocked six lakh anti meseales vaccines and another seven lakh vaccines are on their way to Srinagar.
