NDMA experts to advise regarding the blockage of river Phuktal following landslides | | Jammu, January 21, (Scoop News)-Following directions of the Governor, N.N. Vohra, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Government of India, has been requested to constitute a Multi-Disciplinary Expert Group with representatives drawn from National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Central Water Commisssion, Survey of India, Geological Survey of India, Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology and other concerned to evolve an Action Plan for dealing with the situation arising out of the landslides and consequential blockage of the river Phuktal between Shaday Sumdo and MarShun in Zanaskar Sub Division of district Kargil.
The NRSC who were earlier approached for assistance have since submitted a brief report to the NDMA, based on the analysis of Cartosat-2 and other satellite data.
It may be added that the District Administration of Leh and Kargil have already taken various preventive measures including stopping any movement of people on the Chadder trek between Chilling and Padum in the Ladakh region, and also cautioning people residing in the adjoining areas.
