Rigzin Spalbar hoists tricolour at Polo Ground


Leh,January 26, (Scoop News)- Along with the rest part of the country, the 66th Republic Day was celebrated at Polo Ground Leh where the Chief Executive Councillor(CEC), LAHDC, Leh, Rigzin Spalbar unfurled the tricolour and took salute at the march past in which contingents of J&K Police, J&K Armed Police, Para-military, NCC and school children participated.

Addressing the gathering at polo ground, CEC Rigzin Spalbar said that Republic Day is an occasion to feel pride for the Army, Navy and Air Force of our mighty country who guard our borders and congratulated Ladakh Scouts and ITBP personnel’s for safeguarding the borders of Ladakh. He stressed that this occasion is a day to take commitment to serve our motherland and contribute our part of duty and responsibility for the development and progress of the nation.
Underlining the achievements of present council, CEC made a mention about the achievements and initiatives of all the departments of the present Council under Ladakh Vision Document 2025 and Ladakh Prospective Plan to lead Leh towards sustainable development. Talking about employment opportunities to the youths in Ladakh, CEC said that presence of army and tourism industry in Ladakh provides major employment opportunities to the youths but because of their unpredictable nature, he stressed on the sustainable employment which can only be achieved through land based economy. Detailing about the valuable natural resources of Ladakh, CEC made a mention of Pashmina, Seabuckthorn and horticulture produces which has an immense potential of generating revenue.
He further said that recognising the efforts and initiatives taken by LAHDC Leh towards saving our fragile eco-system and using responsible methods of eco-tourism, the GoI awarded the ‘Best Responsible Tourism’ Award in 2014.
Talking about the initiative taken by LAHDC Leh of starting pre-primary classes in Government schools he said that it has increased the enrolment considerably and also appreciated the teaching faculty and other staff for bringing improvement in school management which is evident from the past results.
Talking about the ‘Dana Petrol Pump’ CEC said that the profit generated will now be useful for giving financial help to the needy and poor patients seeking treatment from outside Ladakh, which otherwise becomes difficult to assist on a larger scale.
CEC also announced that LAHDC Leh has already distributed lands measuring about 20,121 kanal in the last four years all over Leh. He further said that a major plan is in pipeline in order to facilitate accommodation to the natives coming from far-flung areas of Ladakh in Leh town.
Regarding eradicating menace of corruption from Leh, CEC extended all-out support from present council in eradicating the increasing practice of corruption form Leh district and appealed every individual to be practical in fight against corruption.


Colourful Cultural programmes were also presented by students of educational institutions and the artists of Information Department, and Cultural Academy.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included Councillors of LAHDC Leh, Deputy Commissioner Leh, Ghulam Hassan Khan, senior Civil, Army and Police officers.

Later, CEC distributed prizes to the positions holders, in the March Past Mahabodhi Residential School, Choglamsar, bagged first position, Imamia Mission School, Chuchot Second position. Islamia Public School, Leh and Druk Padma Karpo School, Shey bagged 3rd position. And in cultural programme Govt. Girl Higher Secondary School, Leh bagged first position, Ladakh Public School, Leh 2nd position and Govt. Middle School, Leh bagged 3rd position.
Republic Day was also celebrated at all Sub Divisions, Tehsil, Block and Naibat headquarters of Leh district where despite severe cold large number of people attended the functions.
