| Seeds worth Rs 14.03 cr involving subsidy of Rs 6.25 cr provided to farmers | | Jammu, January 27, (Scoop News)-Commissioner Secretary, Agriculture Production, Dr. Asgar Samoon today received brief on the availability and distribution of seeds among farmers of the State at a meeting here.
Director Agriculture Kashmir, Joint Directors and other Divisional Level Officers of the Department attended the meeting.
Director Agriculture Kashmir informed that during the current Rabi Season 14267 quintals of various seeds were provided to the farmers of Kashmir Division by the Department. He informed that the quality seed was procured from NSC and in view of the damage caused to crops due to September floods, subsidy was given to the farmers on oats seed at 33%, Oilseed at 50%, and Peas Rachna at 20%.
The Director informed that in order to provide succor to the affected farmers the department provided record quantity of seeds as compared to the previous years. He said in Kashmir Division, 950 quintals of Peas Rachna was distributed while as 132 quintals of Peas Rachna was distributed in Jammu Division.
It was further informed that subsidy of Rs 12.35 Lakh on Peas Rachna was given to the farmers of Kashmir Valley and Rs 3.3 lakhs subsidy was given to the farmers of Jammu Division.
In addition farmers were provided 9553 quintals of oats seed, 2850 quintals of Peas Arkle, 590 quintals of wheat and 325 quintals of oilseeds costing Rs 7.80 Crore and a subsidy of Rs 2.00 Crore was provided by the Department during current Rabi season.
As a whole during Kharief 2014 and Rabi 2014-15, the Director said that total seed costing Rs 14.03 Crore was provided to farmers with total subsidy component of Rs 6.25 Crore.
