World Book Day Celebrated
Deptt of Libraries and Research organises book exhibition at Srinagar
Srinagar,April 23 (Scoop News)-The Department of Libraries and Research, J&K celebrated the World Book Day at City Central Library, Municipal Complex Srinagar today. Huge collection of books including some rare books and old manuscripts were put on display. The venue was thronged by the book lovers in large numbers.
The Deputy Director Libraries and Research, Kashmir division on the occasion said that the World Book Day is an yearly event and is celebrated on April 23 every year by the UNESCO to promote book reading and publishing.
It was given out that there is a rich collection of books in a large chain of libraries established by the department at districts, Tehsils and blocks levels. The department has kept as many as 109484 books at three central libraries in Srinagar City, 179927 books in district libraries and 195071 books in Tehsil Libraries. Besides, it was informed that there is huge collection of rare books and old manuscripts, some of which are as old as 800 years at Oriental Research Library, Hazratbal, Srinagar.
The book lovers can search the website www.jkpubliclibraries.nic.in for complete detail of books available in various libraries run by the department. These libraries remain open from 10 a.m to 4 p.m on all days of week except Thursday throughout the State.
