| JK Governor inaugurates workshop on CBCS | |  Srinagar, May 06 (Scoop News)-N.N. Vohra, Governor, today inaugurated a Workshop on Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), organized by the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) in collaboration with University Grants Commission (UGC), at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC).
The Governor who is the Chancellor of the State Universities, highlighted the need and high importance of experienced and well qualified faculties being available for teaching the required range of subjects to enable the success of the CBCS within and between the Universities. He said that while CBCS has been introduced in the State at the Post Graduate levels there are still many issues on which UGC’s support is required to make CBCS meaningfully operational. The Governor hoped that the discussions at the Workshop would enable satisfactory solutions being found for the several outstanding issues relating to the implementation of CBCS and Credit Framework for Skill Development (CFSD).
Thanking Prof Devaraj, Vice-Chairman, University Grants Commission, for finding time to visit Kashmir the Governor hoped that in the ensuing discussions during the day Prof. S.S. Chahal, Joint Secretary UGC, would assist the Vice-Chancellors in finding appropriate solutions to questions relating to the new grading system and fixing of standards and co-relating credits for various subjects. He also hoped that Prof. Devaraj would also consider what best can be done for providing timely support under RUSA for the Universities in J&K.
Expressing satisfaction on the recent research initiatives taken in the arena of science, the Governor urged the Universities to also encourage and promote research in the field of Humanities. He lauded the very good results achieved by two Universities in enabling students to qualify and secure Research Fellowships.
Prof. Devaraj, Vice-Chairman, University Grants Commission, spoke about goals and objectives of the higher education and highlighted the importance of introducing CBCS and providing the much required flexibility in designing curricula and assigning credits. Prof. Mehraj-ud-Din, incharge Vice-Chancellor, CUK also spoke on the occasion.
The Welcome Address and the Vote of Thanks, on the occasion, were presented by Prof. M.A. Zargar, Registrar CUK, and Prof. N.A. Nadeem, Dean CUK, respectively.
The participants in the Workshop included the Vice Chancellors, Deans and Registrars of the various Universities in J&K and experts from UGC.
