Use of force on protesting employees shameful :NC
‘PDP-BJP Government an exercise in rhetoric’ – NC Spokesman

Srinagar, May 28 (Scoop News)-National Conference on Thursday strongly condemned the unwarranted and unacceptable use of force against protesting government employees outside civil secretariat in Srinagar. National Conference Spokesperson Junaid Azim Mattu said such attitude of intolerance and autocracy by the PDP-BJP Government was becoming a norm now and needs to opposed and condemned at all levels and by all stakeholders.

In a statement issued from Party Headquarters in Srinagar, NC Spokesman Junaid Mattu said the Government cannot respond to all protests and all just demands by the use of batons and water-cannons. “This doesn’t seem to match the shrill and melodramatic rhetoric of PDP before they came to power after their unholy truck with the BJP. PDP has become an intolerant and autocratic political party invested in the negativity of retribution and political vengeance. The party is mistreating the same government employees who are vital for the State’s progress and bright future”, the NC Spokesman said.

Ridiculing the tall slogans of the PDP-BJP Government, Junaid Mattu reminded both parties of their promises ahead of elections and asked the Chief Minister to match the performance of his Government with the promises that were made. “Be it the treatment meted out to protesting casual employees, daily-wagers or Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers – it has become evident that this PDP-BJP Government has nothing to offer beyond batons and suppression”, the NC Spokesman added.

Taking a dig at Finance Minister Dr. Haseeb Drabu, the NC Spokesman said Dr. Drabu’s pontification and nauseating self-righteousness before elections had translated into precious little after he took over as the Finance Minister. “We were made to believe that Dr. Drabu was the best thing that had happened to Economics ever since Adam Smith and Keynes and that he would sort out all issues with one wave of his magic wand. Contrary to those expectations, all we have seen is the State Government struggling to get its act together and desperately seeking one excuse after another for its complete and unceremonious failure. To conceal the failure of this Government, canards were being spread about financial liabilities being inherited. Fact of the matter is this whole Government; including its super-genius Finance Minister is an exercise in rhetoric and pontification. When it comes to delivery and governance, there is a more palpable sense of anti-incumbency against this Government just within a few months than the previous Government had to face after six years and mainly due to political developments beyond its control. Dr. Drabu's expertise in economics and his academic prowess had unfortunately translated into a complete failure on the planning front”, the NC Spokesman added.

The NC Spokesman asked the Government to stop distracting the attention of the people from its paralytic disposition and at least try to grapple with routine challenges of governance and perform its very basic duties. “The media charade is all very well and good and so are the whirlwind tours of the Chief Minister where he has nothing to offer. What matters at the end of the day is the end result and till now the end result has been a big fat zero. For all the lecturing and pontification of the captains and torch-bearers of this Government while they were in the opposition, the people of this State have been shocked by their spectacular incompetence”, the NC Spokesman added in the statement issued from NC Headquarters in Srinagar.

Asking the Government to meet all just demands of the protesting employees without any delay, the NC Spokesman expressed complete solidarity with the employees and extended full support to their just demands on behalf of the party. “We demand that the Government stops behaving like a riot-control brigade when engaging with the employees and invites them for meaningful and result-oriented negotiations without any further delay. All just demands of the employees should be met by the Government”, the NC Spokesman added.
