Press Club felicitates superannuating DIG Beig
Jammu, May 28 (Scoop News)- Press Club of Jammu today felicitated superannuating Deputy Inspector General of Police, Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, Shakeel Ahmad Beig at a simple function here. Beig is retiring from service on May 31, 2015.


The DIG was welcomed by Dinesh Mahajan on behalf of the management committee of the Press Club of Jammu by presenting bouquet while a memento was also presented to the officer.
“In my 30 years’ career, I have been awarded various medals for bravery and other services in the department, but a gesture of Press Club of Jammu on my superannuation matters and is a great honour for me,” Beig said while addressing the gathering of media persons from both print and electronic media.
Asserting that the journalists are always at the forefront in their field while covering the events, he suggested them to be alert and take all security measures particularly covering encounters and attack like incidents. He also shared his memories with the media fellows of such incidents with the media men.
“We have tried and also succeeded in tightening noose against social evils for which media also played a positive role in providing us vital information on which we acted swiftly,” he said.
Meanwhile, President Press Club of Jammu, Ashwani Kumar lauded the working of the DIG Beig and termed him as a medium of strengthening Police-Media relations.


Quoting an example of 2008 Chinore encounter, Ashwani had all words of appreciation for the top cop and said that it was only because of his farsightedness that militants could not succeed in striking Jammu City.


Secretary General, Zorawar Singh Jamwal while terming Beig as an honest officer wished him luck for future.
He said that likewise in other parts of the country, there is some difference of opinions between police and media but in Jammu and Kashmir, DIG Beig has acted as a bridge between the two and strengthened their relations.


He also lauded his role during recent Samba and Kathua terror attacks asserting that apart from leading his men from the front, Beig also stood by media persons and not only updated them with latest reports but also expressed his concerns for them at the encounter sites.


Senior journalists Raju Kerni, Harbans Nagokey and Ajay Bachloo also spoke on the occasion and wished him on his superannuation.

Welcome address was presented by Aman Sharma while Deepak Khajuria presented vote of thanks. The function was also attended by editors representing various daily, weekly and monthly newspapers of Jammu.
