APSCC for immediate steps for the constitution of Gurudwara Prabandhak Board

Srinagar ,August 13 (Scoop News)- All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) has asked the state government to take immediate steps for the constitution of Gurudwara Prabandhak Board that has been delayed due to the wrong policies of the previous National Conference-Congress coalition government in the state.

In a statement, APSCC Chairman, Jagmohan Singh Raina said that NC-Congress government in the state had in 2013 under a well hatched conspiracy diverted one of the seats of the South Kashmir to North Kashmir. He said as a result of these two seats were reserved for North Kashmir’s Baramulla district with just one seat being reserved for the twin districts of Anantnag and Pulwama in South Kashmir.

“According to the Gurudwara Endowment Act one seat each is reserved for districts of Anantnag, Pulwama and Baramulla. However, in 2013 the then state government of NC-Congress diverted the Pulwama seat to Baramulla. This was done under a plan with the active role of then ruling dispensation,” said Raina.

The APSCC chairman said that the notification issued by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir as Returning Officer for Gurudwara Prabhandhak Board has been stayed by Joginder Singh Shan, President Gurdwara Prabhandhak Committee Pulwama, through a senior advocate Abdul Majid Dar in the High court of J&K, Srinagar. He said that Joginder got the whole process stayed since the previous government did the wrong thing of diverting the Pulwama seat to the Baramulla district.

“The APSCC has already taken up this issue with the present government and it has been impressed upon them to solve the minority issues at the earliest. He said the wrong done by the previous government should be corrected by the present government so that the Gurdwara Prabhandhak Board elections are held at the earliest without any further delay,” said Raina.

The APSCC chairman said that the previous government did not deem it fit to route the diversion of Pulwama seat to Baramulla through legislation. He said the decision was arbitrary and that no legal procedure was followed by the government so as to divert the seat from South Kashmir to North Kashmir.

“Chief Secretary Mohammad Iqbal Khanday should take a serious note of this development so that stern action is taken against the officials who took this one sided and arbitrary decision. We are the guardians of the Gurdwara Endowment Act and we would not allow anybody to play with the Act and hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh community,” said Raina.

The APSCC Chairman said that the good step taken by the state government to hold Gurdwara Prabhandhak Committee elections in the state after a gap of 13 years would go waste if the Gurdwara Prabhandhak Board is not constituted according to the rule of law.
