NC condemns assault on journalist
‘J&K turning into a fascist state’ – NC Spokesperson

Srinagar, November 6,(Scoop News)-National Conference Monday condemned the murderous assault on a senior local journalist by police in Anantnag and demanded immediate suspension of the errand policeman.

In a statement issued from Party Headquarters in Srinagar, NC Provincial Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said, “This is another instance where the PDP-BJP collation has failed to uphold safety of a common Kashmiri. The planned assault on a senior journalist Maqbool Veeray speaks volumes about the state of affairs in the valley. The very incident has brought back the ugly memories of 90’s where those who had an alternate opinion were silenced by the barrel of the gun,” adding, “With the way police is being used to suppress those who dare to write facts about the failures of the present dispensation, Jammu & Kashmir is fast turning into a fascist state.”

National Conference District President Kulgam and legislator Abdul Majid Bhat also condemned the police highhandedness in strong words. He said, “What justifies police beating and injuring an elderly, respected and law abiding citizen. Has the PDP given instructions to police to beat people with a dissent and subject them to atrocities?”

Demanding immediate suspension of those policemen who were involved in the unprovoked thrashing, Imran said, “PDP is actively involved in subjugation and silencing of voices of dissent. In the past, it has silenced disagreement by using unknown killers. This time too, those killers are on the prowl.”

Veeray was thrashed by police in Anantnag on Thursday while he was taking his sick wife for a check-up. His arm has reportedly suffered a fracture.
NC leaders from district Anantnag and district Kulgam have also condemned the attack on journalist.
