DGCA to hold inquiry into Katra chopper crash: DY CM
Jammu, November 23 (Scoop News)- The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) shall hold an inquiry into Katra chopper crash to find out reasons leading to the crash, in which 7 persons including the pilot were killed today at the holy town of Katra in Reasi district.
The said information was given out in a high level meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh in which Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vashno Devi Shrine Board, Ajit Sahu, DIG Udhampur Range, DC Reasi and other senior officers were present.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that DGCA would be holding an inquiry into the matter and would be submitting a report shortly. This would go a long way in ensuring passenger safety and shall also help avoid recurrence of such accidents in which precious human lives are lost, he maintained.



Earlier The Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh also visited Katra to personally take stock of the situation there in the aftermath of a tragic chopper crash in which six pilgrims and the pilot lost their lives today.
The Deputy Chief Minister was accompanied by MLA, Reasi Ajay Nanda, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, DIG Udhampur, DC Reasi and other officers of the civil and police administration.
Dr Singh also visited Katra hospital and directed for early postmortem of the deceased. He also interacted with the family members of the deceased persons and assured them that the State Government would facilitate early transportation of the bodies of the crash victims to their respective States.
The Deputy Chief Minister also informed the deceased families that the Shrine Board has already announced a compensation of Rs 3 lakh per person besides the reimbursement of insurance component of Rs 15 lakh per deceased.
The people who died in the chopper crash have been identified as Arjun Singh, Mahesh and Vandana from Jammu and Sachin, Akshita and Arunjit Singh from New Delhi. The deceased pilot of the chopper has been identified as Sumita from Hyderabad.



Secretary Tourism, Farooq Ahmad Shah has expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives, many of them tourists, in a chopper crash today at Katra.
In his condolence message, Shah has said Tourism Department stands with the bereaved tourist families in this hour of grief and extended his condolences to them. He also prayed for peace to the departed souls.
Shah reiterated the commitment of the department to extend all facilities to the tourists and provide them a safe and homely comfort.
The Directors of Tourism, Jammu and Kashmir have also conveyed their condolences to the bereaved tourist families....
