Corps of Pioneer celebrate its 74th Raising Day

Udhampur, November 24, (Scoop News)-The corps of Pioneer of Army’s Northern Command celebrated its 74th Raising day on Tuesday.

The origin of Pioneers dates back to 1758 in Madras Presidency where the first company of Madras Pioneer was formed and was followed by the raising of Bombay Pioneers in 1777, Sikh Pioneers in 1803 and Bengal Pioneers in 1857.

The Pioneer Corps has acquitted itself in a praiseworthy and commendable manner both during peace and war. The personnel of the Pioneer Corps have been an important link in the logistic chain and have contributed immensely towards sustenance of field formations in all operations. There are six Pioneer units deployed in Northern Command.

On the occasion, Lt Gen DS Hooda, GOC-in-C Northern Command complimented all ranks and their families of the Pioneer Corps and exhorted them to continue to live upto the motto of the Corps “SHRAM SARVA VIJAYEE”.

Troops of the Pioneer Corps have taken part in all major battles and operations and have a rich heritage of marking sacrifices to safeguard the territorial integrity of our motherland. The Corps has been honoured with 246 gallanty/distinguished awards including six Military Cross, seven Military Medals, five Order of British Empire, three Kirti Chakras, six Shaurya Chakras and three Sena Medals.
