GCW Gandhi Nagar and GDC Kathua lift Silver Rolling Trophy
at 6th Annual Inter-State (Northern Zone) Declamation Contest
Jammu, November 27 (Scoop News)-The team comprising Ms. Shivika Thakur of the Government College for Women, Gandhinagar, Jammu and Atika Sharma of the Government Degree College Kathua, won the Silver Rolling Trophy instituted by Governor N. N. Vohra, at the 6th Annual Inter-State (Northern Zone) Declamation Contest, which was organized by the Department of Higher Education at the Government College for Women, Gandhinagar, Jammu.
The Runner-Up Trophy was bagged by the team comprising Ms. Aneesa Ramzan of Government Degree College, Tral and Rishabh Vaishnav of BNPG, Udaipur, Rajasthan.
The topic of the Declamation Contest was “Is Development and Growth Enough to Reduce Discontent in Society”.
Governor N. N. Vohra, was the Chief Guest and Mrs. Usha Vohra, First Lady was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. Ms. Priya Sethi, Minister of State for Education, Culture & Information presided over the function.
The Governor appreciated the speakers for their clear perceptions and impressive articulation and observed this annual event, which commenced 6 years ago, had this year witnessed the participation of students from all the three regions of J&K- Jammu, Valley, Leh and Kargil districts, and significant participation from the Northern States and it is gratifying that this contest had continue to enlarge and improve on all fronts. He assured enhanced support to the College for facilitating larger participation of students in future. The Governor congratulated Dr. Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the Government College for Women Gandhinagar and her colleagues for the successful organization of the event.
The Governor observed that all the sections of the society including students, teachers, and the public at large should give thought to what promotes a satisfied population and contentment among individuals. He noted that India is a land of rich diversity, and pluralism is deeply embedded in our thousands of years old socio-religious tradition, and we should strive to foster communal harmony among our diverse communities.
The Governor presented the Rolling Trophy to the winning team and also gave prizes to the runner-up. He presented cash prize of Rs. 11,000 to Ms. Shivika Thakur of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar for being adjudged first. 2nd prize was won by Ms. Atika Sharma of GDC Kathua; while 3rd Prize was won by Ms. Aneesa Ramzan of GDC Tral. 1st , 2nd and 3rd Consolation prizes were respectively won by Rishabh Vaishnav of BNPG, Udaipur, Rajasthan, Shubham Sharma of GDC Hirannagar, and Ms. Syed Areej of GDC for Women, M.A. Road Srinagar.
Governor also presented mementos to Ms. Sneh Sambyal, former Professor Department of Economics, Ms. Veena Thappar, Joint Director Planning and Development; Jagdish Sharma, former Professor Department of English; Anil Tiwari,Director, School of Philosophy and Culture, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Dr. Neelu Rhometra, Rector Kathua Campus of Jammu University who were the Jury Members and Prof. Mohd. Aslam Baba, Nodal principal Amar Singh College, Srinagar; Prof. Z.A. Chat, Chairman JKBOSE and Narinder Khajuria, Additional Secretary, Governor’s Secretariat who were the Observers of the Declamation Contest.
The Governor and the First Lady were presented mementos.
Ms. Sarita Chouhan, Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education Department was present on the occasion.
Dr. Kiran Bakshi, Principal, Government College for Women, Gandhinagar, Jammu, in her welcome address gave details of the participants of the Declamation Contest. She said that a total of 46 students from Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh and Jammu and Kashmir had participated in this contest.
Professor T.A Kawoos, Director Colleges, presented a formal Vote of Thanks.
Earlier, students of the College presented a captivating cultural programme which included creative and folk dances.
Principals of various colleges, college teachers and students were present on the occasion.
