Workshop on ‘Conscious Leadership and Social Change’ concludes at ICccR & HRM, JU


Jammu,February 13 (Scoop News)-Two-day Level II workshop on ‘Conscious Leadership and Social Change’ for the students of MBA-International Business (MBA-IB) programme concluded today. The workshop was organised by International Centre for Cross-Cultural Research and Human Resource Management (ICccR & HRM), University of Jammu in association with Yakjah Reconciliation and Development Network, New Delhi. The theme of the workshop revolved around the dynamics of social change through change in “Self”. Ashima Kaul, Founder Trustee and Managing Director, Yakjah, and the recipient of coveted 100 Women Achiever Award 2015-16 by Ministry of Women and Child Development, GOI, was the lead trainer for the workshop, assisted by Ms. Tamana Slathia, volunteer leader Yakjah. Yakjah is a peace building network that endeavours to promote social harmony and peaceful co-existence. It trains young people to discover their own strength and talent through dialogue for personal transformation.

During the opening session, Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Director, International Centre for Cross Cultural Research and Human Resource Management, welcomed the resource persons and talked about the relevance of conscious leadership behaviour. She said that leadership involves ownership of responsibility for execution of change in a planned manner in the organisations. Prof. Rohmetra added that organisational leaders who practice conscious and conscientious behaviours act as catalyst for social change.

The workshop focussed on developing an understanding of new patterns emerging in context of social, economic and global developments. The focal point of the workshop was to create an awareness of human, environmental and ecological interconnectedness, besides addressing issues for Conflict Resolution. During two days, Ashima worked on building skills in participants by articulating the intricacies of conscious leadership. Thoughts regarding self-consciousness and its relation with leadership in today’s picture were conversed. MBA-IB students were trained in addressing challenges of heterogeneity and diversity in management of multinational corporations. During the workshop the participants were apprised about the shortcomings of the present business models and how holistic success of business sectors is directly linked with social responsibility. At the end of the two-day workshop, the students analysed the transformation they had observed in themselves by working on themselves. Using the model of transformation, the students of MBA-IB devised and presented a conscious solutions to the stories.

The workshop included systematic methods and techniques involving group activities such as Ice Breaking sessions, “Active listening”, “Perception & Communication Techniques” and “Circle of Conversation”, where the participants learned through the process of personality identification. The future business leaders were also sensitised about gender discrimination and its adversities in the corporate world through thought-provoking activities like “Walk of Shame” and “Gender Swap”. Ms. Isha Sharma, Dr. Ridhi Sharma and Dr. Shafqat Ajaz, were the Programme Coordinators.
