CEC Leh pays homage to martyrs on 70th Independence Day celebration


Leh, August 23 (Scoop News)- Like other parts of India the concluding day of the fortnight long celebration of the 70th Independence Day on the theme ‘Yaad karo Qurbani’ was also conducted today at Eliezer Joldan Memorial College Leh. The programme began by flagging off 5000 Mtrs race among girls and boys students of college by CEC Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo in presence of Executive Councilor for Agriculture Tsering Wangdus and Executive Councilor for Tourism Tsering Sandup. To mark the concluding function of ‘Yaad karo Qurbani’, the students of college presented a scintillating sequence of patriotic song, skit and dance followed by national anthem. During the celebration, the Leh College also organized Freedom-Run-Athletic Meet, Essay writing competition, painting competition, skit and patriotic songs.
Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Leh Dr. Sonam Dawa presided as the chief guest observed that it is important to remember the supreme sacrifice of Indian freedom fighters more frequently. Underlining the equal & unforgettable contribution of war heroes of Ladakh in protecting the frontiers of the motherland since 1948, Dr Dawa paid rich tribute to the martyrs and thanked their family members for their great contribution.
Appreciating the enthusiastic programme of the college students today in general and the deep feeling of patriotism that was showcased by different school children on the eve of 70th Independence Day celebration at Leh pologround in particular, Dr Dawa asserted the strong feeling of attachment and love of the people of Ladakh for the motherland which is incomparable.
Highlighting the improved education system as compared to yester years, Dr Dawa highly appreciated the endeavour of the faculty members of college headed by the Principal and termed the students lucky as they can study in the comforts of their home sitting in front of the elderly of the family which helps them to stay connected with their roots and therefore encouraged them to stay intact with the moral values of the land.
Responding to the demands forwarded by the college, Dr Dawa assured all possible intervention in addressing their issues, adding that LAHDC Leh is also trying to take back the adjacent area now covered by the army. As education sector falls under his portfolio, he assured the students that he will fully support the skill and talent of the students to encourage them to take it to the next higher level.
Earlier, in his welcome address Principal EJM College, Leh Dr. G.S Rakwal briefed the function about the inception of the college in 1994 with mere number of 54 students which has now increased to more than 900 students. Highlighting the activities organized in the college in the current academic session, Dr. Rakwal also put forth the demands and issues of college before the CEC for early redress.
Later the guests distributed prizes to the students who excelled in sports, essay writing and painting competitions.
