| 16 hours closure of Banihal tunnel atrocious : NC | |
Srinagar,September 28, (Scoop News)-National Conference on Wednesday lashed out at the Mehbooba Mufti Government for a newly conceived policy of closing Banihal tunnel for 16 hours every day and said this was atrocious and aimed at persecuting the people of the Valley.
In a statement issued from NC Head Office in Srinagar, National Conference Additional General Secretary Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal said it was evident that Mehbooba Mufti and her PDP-BJP Government believed in persecuting the people into submission and would not hesitate to use any methods – even if immoral and tyrannical – to harass people it claims to govern.
“This closure of the Banihal tunnel is causing enormous difficulties to the common man and is also aimed at isolating the Valley economically and socially as some sort of a sadistic punitive measure in response to the current agitation. Mehbooba Mufti believes she can coerce and torment people into submission and into accepting her hegemony. She is mistaken and living in a fool’s paradise. Such regressive steps will only alienate the people of Kashmir and push them farther from prospects of peace”, the NC Additional General Secretary said in the statement.
The NC Additional General Secretary asked the State Government to ensure the Banihal tunnel remains open round the clock, as was ensured by the previous Government in the State. “A failure to keep the tunnel open round the clock would mean this Government is deriving sadistic pleasure out of tormenting and persecuting the people”, Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal added.
