Zulfikar launches PM Ujjwala Yogna in Leh
says Govt committed to empower woman and save them from health hazards

Leh, October 19, (Scoop News)- Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Chowdhary Zulfikar Ali said that all the left over BPL women who are not listed in the beneficiaries of Prime Minister Ujjwala Yogna will be given free LPG connection under PMUY Plus scheme so that every BPL genuine women of the state is covered under it. The Minister earlier launched PMUY from Leh and handed over LPG connection to genuine BPL woman of Leh.

While launching PMUY in Leh - the world highest town, Chowdhary Zulfikar Ali said that the mission of government is to cover all BPL women in this scheme in order to save them from health hazards and for the same, government has brought PMUY Plus. He said that under this scheme, they will get surveyed the leftover families and include all BPL women. The Minister said that PMUY Plus will benefit all BPL women at large and it has been initiated to provide relief to those who are not figured in the PMUY beneficiaries list. ‘’Government of India want to cover all genuine BPL woman in this scheme from Leh to Kanyakumari’’, Minister said adding that J&K state is moving ahead vastly to cover these women under the scheme.

Terming PMUY as pro women and pro poor scheme, Minister said that J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is particular in welfare of women folk and this scheme fulfills her desire as it is beneficial for poor women who are still using unclean fuel for cooking purpose. He said that United Nations World Health Organization has already released its report about use of unclean fuel and according to the data 5 lakh women are dying every year due to respiratory diseases which is caused due to use of unclean fuel for cooking purpose in the houses especially rural households. He added that this scheme is giving big relief to these women and saving them from health hazards. He said, “Universe exists because of women “Aurat Se Kainaat Kayam Hai’ and everybody must play a role in welfare of the women folk,” and added that government has pledged to empower women and thus focused attention towards welfare of women folk at large scale.

About the targets of covering beneficiaries, Minister said that they will cover 8 lakh women in first phase till 1918 and have targeted distribution of 1 lakh connections in the current month. He said that they have already distributed 60,000 connections in Jammu & Kashmir and remaining 40,000 will be distributed till the end of this month. He added that distribution process has been speedup and ensured to achieve the target soon.

Pressing upon the need to follow safety advisory of the oil companies, Chowdhary Zulfikar Ali said that the scheme is covering beneficiaries under Insurance cover and provide them every help. He said that in case of incident, Rs 6 lakh has been earmarked per person in death case and Rs 30 lakh in case whole family suffers human loss. He added that there is a provision for immediate relief of Rs 25000 to Rs 2 lakh in case of injuries for giving them health treatment. He added that Government is taking care of every aspect of beneficiaries. He also informed about their new proposals that include opening of HPCL Depot and storage shed in Leh and Rs. 60 lakh project under corporate social responsibility by Indian Oil that include opening of Medical Emergency Centre at Khardong-la top and two blocks of toilet in Leh town. Mr. Zulfikar appreciated HPCL, IOCL and BPCL for their efforts in and services in Ladakh region and J&K at large.

CEC, LAHDC Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo addressing the gathering said that Council has made an earnest effort in consent with area councilors and CA&PD officers to provide free gas connection under PMUY scheme to genuine beneficiaries who fall under BPL category. He appealed to the public to be honest in availing this scheme and ensure that genuine poor people get the benefit and follow the system patiently. He expressed gratitude to the Minister for his personal visit to Leh and his intervention in ensuring adequate supply of ration stock for the district and government school hostels.
