Various student groups hold a massive protest rally in Jammu University Campus
against an accused doctor involved in molestation case

Jammu/ Leh (Ladakh), February 21, (Scoop News)-A massive protest demonstration was held Monday by All Students of Jammu, Kashmir against an accused doctor of Government Medical College (GMC)- Jammu, in a molestation case.

Various student groups including National Students Union of India (NSUI), Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP), All India Students Federation of India- Gujjar Bakerwal Students Union, All Ladakh Student Union- Jammu and other student organisations under the banner of All Students of Jammu & Kashmir took part in the protest at Jammu University and raised voice against Government Medical College sexual harassment case.

Over 500 students assembled at Jammu University near fountain and led a rally in the university campus. Several student leaders addressed the gathering. The Students, under the banner of All Students of Jammu and Kashmir, submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister stating their demands, mentioned below:-
1. We demand that government should constitute fast track court to ensure speedy and time-bond justice to the victims of sexual harassments especially those involving student complainants as this case of sexual harassment at Government Medical College Jammu involves. The Government of Uttar Pradesh has constituted a similar Fast track court to sort our all the pending cases of violence against women.
2. The accused should be terminated unconditionally from his position. His attachment to any services under the Government of J&K should be revoked immediately, as we understand that the molester is presently attached to the Directorate of Health Services, Jammu. In addition we demand that he should not be attachment to any services under the Government of J&K which relates to the students affairs or which deals with the students.
3. We demand for the intervention of Honorable Chief Minister for immediate and swift action to be taken against the accused, as the proceedings in this case is unnecessarily delayed. Further keeping in mind, public perception of his being a habitual molester as reported in the media, he should be given severe punishment, so that future crime against women can be checked.
4. There should be different police cell or a 24*7 helpline no to handle the cases of sexual harassment against Students or especially for girls students, on the line of the provision for the Northeastern Students in Delhi. In this regard we request you to kindly issue necessary direction to the concerned departments to establish such cell and 24*7 helpline no in Jammu.
5. Honorable Madam, we also want to know about the committee that honorable Health Minister has promised to constitute on the floor of the house to investigate this case. We want to know whether this committee has submitted any report to the government so far.

Students urged the Chief Minister to take this issues seriously and ensure proper investigation and fair trial of the case within a specific period of time, without further delay.

The speakers said they would continue fight until justice is delivered to the victim in particular and truth prevails. They pledged to carry forward the movement until the justice is delivered to the complainant.
