Protesters in village Tarigam brush off Army Chief’s warning
come out in dozens to thwart CI Operation by security forces

Kulgam (Kashmir), February 22, (Scoop News)-Rebuffing Army Chief, Gen Bipin Rawat’s warning of a harsh action against those trying to hamper counter insurgency operations by labeling them as anti national, the people of village Tarigam in Kulgam district came out in dozens to repulse an army search operation in the area following a tip off about the presence of militants there, sources said on Wednesday.

The protesters hurled stones on the security forces and also blocked all entry points to the village with stones and tree trunks. Police had to use tear canisters and baton charge to disperse and chase away stone lobbing youth.

Pertinently, the army chief, Gen Rawat, last Wednesday had warned those in Kashmir who obstruct CI operations against terrorist by the security forces. He said such intransigent elements would be treated as anti national element if they did not refrain.

“There is a stark shift in militant’s strategy, it appears they are galvanizing local support with the help of over ground workers (OGW),” well informed sources said adding “we have credible information to prove that these OGW’s are paying money to the protesters against the security forces for disrupting the Counter Insurgency Operations.”

The sources maintained most of these protesters are not bluntly associated with militants but are induced into these violent acts because of money.

During peak militancy, the civilians were seen nowhere close to the site of encounter and they would instead prefer to stay indoors even if it was being carried out next door to them, they added.

“This is a dangerous trend for the national security and the evil has to be nipped in the bud at the earliest before it attains a menacing level. See what our neighbouring country Pakistan is doing with anti social and anti national elements following a series of bomb blasts at several places in the country that claimed over 105 lives besides injuring scores others. The army killed 130 militants there during counter terror operations,” the sources elaborated.

They said “we often see the militancy in the Valley as an internal one but it has a transnational character like funds, arms and terrorists, comes from across the border- Pakistan.”...
