Ganga appreciates JKP role in promoting sports
DGP Vaid thanks people for joining ‘Run for Fun’ in large numbers
Jammu, March 19, (Scoop News)-Crediting Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel for ensuring peace in the state by offering supreme sacrifices, Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Parkash Ganga said police administration plays pivotal role in upholding and enforcing law to protect life, liberty, property, human rights and dignity of the public.
Addressing the prize distribution ceremony of State Level Marathon “Run for Fun” at Gulshan Ground here today, Ganga appreciated the efforts of police for organizing such events thereby assisting the youth in channelizing their energies through sports.
The Minister awarded cash prizes and certificates to winners from all categories including Sabder Dulla of Kathua for winning full Marathon – 42 KMs (civilian), Bharat Bhusan of BSF, 21 kms (Army/Police Personnel), Des Raj of Ramban, 21 kms, Half Marathon (civilian), Shahid Ali, 21 kms Men Half Marathon (Army/Police Personnel), Heena Choudhary of Jammu, 8 kms, Women Half Marathon, Ifshan Ahmed of Narbal Budgam (boys under 14) and Rubina Bibi of Jammu in 6 kms (girls under 14).
“Run for Fun” Marathon was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police under its Civic Action Programme and saw participation from men, women and children from 5 to 75 years of age. The largely participated Marathon was the 6th edition in the State.
Earlier, the Marathon was flagged off by Director General of Police (DGP), Dr S P Vaid in the wee hours from Gulshan Ground. Students from different educational institutions, sports bodies, police personnel, paramilitary personnel, and members of Chamber of Commerce, Jammu Club, Jammu Bar Association, Press Club, senior citizens besides retired police officers joined the Marathon.
On the occasion, Dr Vaid said the aim behind organizing sports events is to cultivate sports talent and strengthen bonds with people. He reiterated that police organisation would continue its efforts to inspire youth of the State towards sports. He thanked the people, particularly children for their participation in the Marathon.
