Scouts and Guides of J&K complete ski course at IISM Gulmarg
Gulmarg, March 20, (Scoop News)-Indian Institute of Skiing & Mountaineering (IISM) completed its 6th ski course at Gulmarg in which 14 local youth sponsored by J&K Scouts and Guides also took part. More than 80 students including students from all parts of the country and local Kashmir youth graduated in an impressive ceremony at IISM Gulmarg.
Mr. Shabir Ahmad Wani, Asstt. Director, Youth Services & Sports Council was the chief guest and Mr. G. M. Dar, Tourist Officer was guest of honor who gave away the prizes to the winners of different ski events. Mr. JS Dhillon, the Principal of IISM welcomed the chief guest and briefed him about the various activities being undertaken by the Institute. He said Institute has provided the best platform to the youth of the Nation especially the youth of Kashmir to not only learn the skill of skiing but also develop their overall personality. Institute trains hundreds of youth every year. These courses are very useful for the youth as it give them opportunity to build their career in the sports of skiing at National and International levels and also generate huge employment opportunities for the local youth as guides or Instructors to the tourist.
14 youth form Kashmir were sponsored by J&K Scouts and Guides under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Farooq Renzu Shah a social crusader of the Valley. In a separate function he honored the Scouts who completed the course and gave them medals of success. Mr. Shabir Wani said it was a great honor for him to be the chief guest at IISM which is his Alma mater. He was the student at the IISM in Mid seventies. He said the Institute under the leadership of Mr. Dhillon has gained new heights and is now one of the best ski schools in the South East Asia. He said the facilities provided by the Institute are world class and it has best equipment and a centrally heated building. He complimented the students for successful completion of the ski course and appealed them to be the ambassadors of not only of IISM but of the whole Kashmir. He said Kashmir is a paradise which is very safe for tourist and they must come again for advance courses.
Students who under event the course were very happy and praised the excellent facilities of training and administration provided to them by IISM. The Institute is planning various summer adventures courses in the coming months.
