CUK holds 7th Academic Council meeting, takes several important decisions

Srinagar, March 20, (Scoop News)- The 7th meeting of the Academic Council of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) was held at Nowgam-II academic cum administrative block of the varsity with Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir in chair.
The meeting was attended by Professor, School of Biological Sciences, Prof. Syed Ehtesham Hasnain, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, Dr. Sher Ali, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Finance Officer, Mr. Bashir Ahmad Haji, Deans of different Schools, Heads and Coordinators of various departments, senior faculty members, adjunct professors, other stakeholders from diverse fields and industry, student representatives and senior functionaries of the university.
Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir informed the participants about the significant developments made by the university on the academic front. He said the university has received tremendous response from the students for the newly launched integrated Science programmes B.Sc-M.Sc in Physics, Zoology, Biotechnology, Mathematics and B.A L.L.B, adding that the entrance test of these was conducted yesterday at different centres in Srinagar and in the centres established in Jammu division and New Delhi. Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir apprised the members about the launching of the B.Voc programmes in Tourism and Hospitality Management and Retail and Logistic Management, revision of fee structure from the academic session 2016, establishment of new departments including integrated B.Sc-M.Sc in Chemistry, Botany, B.Pharma-M Pharma, Bachelors and M.PEd. He said that despite the unrest in valley last year, the university faculty was able to complete the syllabus of the students and hold their examination.
The Council also approved launching of B.Tech programme in Computer Science and also endorsed the creation of Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering and Department of Architecture to higher bodies for approval and relevant amendments.
The body also endorsed the creation of supernumerary seat for the students of district Ganderbal for admission to various programmes based on inter-seat merit in the entrance tests. The launching of skill development courses including Data Entry Operators and Applied Food Technology was also approved. An increased in the intake capacity for UG and PG programmes was also ratified. The facility for providing scribe/reader/amanuensis to PWD candidates as per the norms was also endorsed to higher bodies. Various other academic decisions and amendments to ordinances were endorsed for approvals.
Earlier, welcoming the members, Registrar, Prof. Muhammad Afzal Zargar, gave details about the academic activities conducted by the university from time to time and also shared the information about the increasing number of students joining the varsity. He said the students have made CUK a preferred institution for undertaking higher studies.
