Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital celebrates its 1st Anniversary
More than one lakh patients benefit in one year


Jammu (Kakryal), April 19, (Scoop News)-One year and more than one lakh patients’ benefited from the treatment availed at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital located in Kakryal near Katra. It was on this day one year back that the hospital was inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Celebrating its first anniversary, the tertiary care Superspeciality hospital highlighted some significant milestones and patient-friendly initiatives taken during the year.

With high quality of care and affordable cost, the hospital has touched the lives of more than one lakh people of Jammu & Kashmir apart from a large number of pilgrims who availed of healthcare services here during their Yatra to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine. On this occasion the CEO of SMVD Narayana Superspeciality Hospital Dr. Suneet Marwah said, “Our focus has always been on patient and family-centered care. In a short span of time the hospital has made a mark in a variety of specialities. We have Centres of excellence in cancer and cardiac care apart from other key specialities, which include liver and gastroenterology, Nephrology - management of kidney disease, urology, orthopaedics, paediatrics and neurology to name a few”.

As part of its neighbourhood initiatives, the hospital conducted many health screening camps in Jammu, Reasi, Sunderbani, Doda, Poonch, Rajauri and Akhnoor with a primary mission of providing exceptional acute and preventive medical care, making a difference in the lives of people living in J&K region and neighbouring districts. It offers free ambulance service, mobile mammography screening and regular health awareness programs.

The hospital performs life-saving emergencies and elective surgeries. It has offered many free and concessional treatments to deserving patients from economically backward sections costing around Rs. 5.3 Crores. Besides, Shrine Board also extended support and assistance to the tune of Rs. 2.9 Crores to various categories of patients such as pilgrims, villagers, landowners and poor & needy patients. Recently, the hospital provided such treatment to children born with cleft lip and cleft palate with the support of a German-based NGO.

Since its formal inauguration by Prime Minister on 19th April, 2016, the Hospital performed 1796 surgeries, performed Angiography in 403 cases and Angioplasty in 108 cases; the Oncology OPD was attended by 1627 patients of whom 694 patients received chemotherapy; 160 patients underwent cancer related surgeries and the 146 patients were also given radiation treatment for radiosensitive malignancies; 61 Cardiac (Open Heart) Surgeries have been performed at this Hospital and Haemodialysis has been done in 3205 cases.

“We want to offer the best quality of care to patients in this region so that they don’t have to travel elsewhere for high-end Superspeciality care services. Our doctors and medical teams are highly qualified with rich experiences in their field. Patients need not travel to Delhi or Chandigarh for advanced treatment as all that is now available at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Hospital”, said Dr. (Brig.) M M Harjai, Chief Administrator Officer, SMVD Narayana Superspeciality Hospital.

“We have plans of upgrading our treatment facilities and bring in more number of specialist doctors”, said Sunil Kumar, Sr. Vice-President & Zonal Director – Narayana Health. “We will soon have high-end diagnostic equipments such as PET CT, Robotic assisted surgeries, organ transplant and commence Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplant services soon”, he affirmed. The hospital now offers out-patient consultancy services at its clinic in Jammu as well.

A function was held at the hospital campus to mark the 1st anniversary that was attended by Dr. Sudhir S Bloeria, Hon’ble Chairman Governing Body and Member – Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and a host of senior management officials, doctors and staff of SMVD Narayana Superspeciality Hospital.
