Education key to individual, collective development: Priya Sethi

Kathua,, May 06, (Scoop News)- Minister of State for Education, Technical Education, Tourism, Culture, Horticulture, Floriculture and Parks Priya Sethi today inaugurated newly constructed School building of Satya Sai Bahrtiya Vidya Mandir here at Preta, Nagrota- 10 Km from Basholi town.
The school building has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 crore and will cater to the educational needs of students of remote areas.
In the current academic session, students up to class 5 can enroll in this school which is being run under the aegis of Bhartiya Siksha Samiti which operates 40 schools in Jammu and Kashmir with a strength of 10,000 students and 500 teachers. In addition to basic subjects, the school will also teach five additional subjects viz. Yoga, Music, Sanskrit, Moral Science and Vedic Mathematics.
Highlighting the importance of education, the Minister said that its purpose is not only to make career but also to develop good minds. “The function of education is to enable people to think intensively and critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education” she asserted adding “In schools we learn and develop personality, mental skills, imbibe moral and physical powers. Without proper education, an individual is deprived of all benefits. Education is the only key to success in personal and professional life”.
Stressing on the quality education, the Minister said that all institutes whether state owned or private should be equipped with adequate infrastructure like computer labs and Smart Classes to enable the students to face the present day challenges.
She reiterated that the State Government is committed to provide quality education and sought the cooperation of the teachers in achieving tangible goals set by the government.
Meanwhile, a delegation of local people met the Minister and projected their demands which mainly include up gradation of two Girl High Schools at Basholi and Hutt, preservation and maintenance of historical Basohli palaces which are marvels of ancient architecture symbols of Dugaar heritage.
They also demanded development of these heritage sites for attraction of tourists and suggested for construction of Gandola from the Basholi town to the local ancient fort and development of public parks on the pattern of Bahu fort in Jammu.
