CEC,LAHDC inaugurates National Seminar “ Science and Technology : Reaching the Unreached”

Leh,May 13, (Scoop News)-Organized by Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA), Jammu Chapter in collaboration with Elizer Joldan Memorial College Leh and ISCA Kolkata under the aegis of LAHDC, Leh, a 3-day National Seminar under the theme “ Science and Technology : Reaching the Unreached” was inaugurated by the Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC Leh Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo at EJM College Leh today morning. The three day seminar is being participated by eminent scientists and academicians from all over the country including scientists from DIHAR and SKUAST, Leh. During the conference, besides Technical Sessions, Symposium and Painting competitions, deliberation on “Science and Technology: Its relevance in modern Ladakh” will also be held.
Addressing the inaugural session, CEC Dr. Dawa said that organizing this National Seminar at Leh itself justified the theme of the conference “Reaching the Unreached” in real sense as Ladakh is a remote and unreached destination in terms of research and innovations. Dr. Dawa on behalf of LAHDC, Leh welcomed all the scientists to Leh and thanked ISCA for choosing Leh for this national level seminar and hoped that Leh will become one of the Chapter of ISCA in future. He urged upon the local scientists of DIHAR and SKUAST to make best out the seminar and suggested organizers to involve other line departments like agriculture, horticulture, Animal etc in the conference for fruitful results.
Drawing the attention of the scientists about the requirement of special treatment to Ladakh due to its distinct geographical conditions in many ways, Dr. Dawa requested ISCA to include topic under natural disaster specially Flash Food which struck Ladakh many times in last one decade so that amicable solutions could be develop to control such disasters in future. Talking about the importance of correlation between religion and science in today’s world, Dr. Dawa also suggested ISCA to invite His Holiness the Dalai Lama in such seminar who is a well-known figure to correlate religion and science beautifully.
Recognizing the services of Padma Shree Engineer Chewang Norphel known as Ice-Men or Glacier man of Ladakh who created an artificial glacier in remote villages of Himalaya, ISCA honoured Norphel with memento on the occasion. On the occasion, the guests also released the Souvenir books.
Earlier, addressing the programme in cycle Dr. Ashok Kumar Saxena General President, ISCA -2016, Dr. Manoj Chakrabarti, General President ISCA (Elect) 2018, Sh. Gangadhar Gen Sec, Membership Affairs and Prof. M.K Joyoti (Ex-Chapter Convenor) spoke in detail about the role of ISCA in reaching the unreached regions of nation and need of research and innovations in development of our county. They said that one of objective of such seminar is to inculcate quest among students towards science.
Principal EJM College Sonam Yangzes gave welcome address while as Prof Kuldeep K. Sharma, Convenor Jammu Chapter gave vote of thanks.
