International Museum Day observed in JU

Jammu, May 18, (Scoop News)-The International Museum Day was observed by the Centre for Studies in Museology, University of Jammu, here today.
The International Museum day was observed at Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani Museum of Heritage organized by Centre for Studies in Museology under the Supervision of Director of the Centre, Prof. Poonam Chaudhary. Live Demonstration- cum- Exhibition on the theme ‘Heritage for Peace’was inaugurated by Prof. R D Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu and the Guest of Honor to the event was Dr. S. D. Singh, IGP who showed keen interest on such events which involves promotion and protection of local heritage. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor appreciated such an innovative way of showcasing the heritage by the Centre which promoted skill development through live demonstration of local heritage of borderland villages. Monograph ‘Heritage for Peace’ was also released on the occasion.
The founding Head of the Department, Museology, Prof. Poonam Chaudhary underscored the importance of this day for promoting and protecting the rich cultural heritage of the borderland villages of Suchetgarh Tehsil of Jammu district which constitutes villages like Kapoorpur, Gharani, Chakroi and Gulabgarh, the Centre took initiative to document the local living heritage of these villages. The scholars along with the resource persons from Suchetgarh acted as demonstration cum exhibition assistants in order to showcase the heritage of border villages. Tushita Pandey was the Program coordinator along with the assistant coordinator Monika Chaudhary. Amarjeet Singh from IMFA, Sonam Palzais, Mamta Sharma, Pallavi Rajput, Puneet Sharma, Poonam Sharma and Sheena Maini, scholars of the Centre participated in developing a monograph, guiding all the school student to various aspects of village heritage.
Several interactive events such as folk art- wall painting done on the mud wall by the ladies of the villages, depictingdesigns with triangular shapes, flowers, stars, moon etc., making of several handicrafts such as Pakhi, Tokri, Binney, Chinger, preparation and serving of the local food heritage in the form of Ghyur and Chilley was also cooked and served to the guests. Students of some of the prominent schools like J.K. Public School, K.C. Public School and Diwan Badrinath Public School visited the museum and they were guided by the scholars of the Centre and were made aware of the local heritage. Thakur Sindoor Singh from Samba showed the traditional way of tying a Dogri Pagri (turban). A photographic exhibitionof the borderland life, its folk heritage and folk culture of villages were exhibited.
The program ended with the melodious folk music Bhaakhein sung by Dr. Roshi Shimnotra, of IMFA along with the students namely Deepika,Vandana, Roshi, Kanika, Geetika, Nancy IMFA Army Public School and artists on Tabla and Guitar namely RajeevRai, Rajesh Kumar, Shivshant and Anil Sumbria hailing from Jammu and nearby areas.
Other prominent dignatries of the university who attended the function were Prof. SatnamKaur, Dean Students welfare, Prof. Alka Sharma, HOD, The Business School, Prof. PrakashAnthal, Prof. VineyChauhan, Prof. Shailender Singh, Prof. VishvaRaksha, Prof Anik, Prof SanjeevSambyaletc , Mr. S.M Sahini, convener INTACH- Jammu and Professors from different govt colleges of Jammu.
