Jammu, July 16, (Scoop News)-Eleven Amarnath pilgrims killed and thirty five others injured in road accident in Ramban district on Sunday morning.


Reports said that Eleven Amarnath pilgrims lost their lives and thirty five others injured on Sunday when a bus carrying them collided with a truck fell into gorge at Ramban on Jammu-Srinagar national highway.


Reports said that a bus carrying yatris was heading towards Srinagar when it met with an accident.

Eleven pilgrims died on spot.

Meanwhile with the death of two more pilgrims from Maharashtra and Gujarat, the death toll during the annual Amarnath pilgrimage so far has risen to thirty six since the commencement of the 40-day annual yatra to the holy cave shrine since June 29.


Sixty five year old Sadashiv, a resident of Maharashtra, complained of breathlessness on reaching Baltal base camp from Jammu. He was immediately rushed to a hospital at the base camp where he died, a yatra official said this morning.

With this, a total of 18 yatris have died so far. Two of them died in accidents caused by shooting stones and accident, while 16 others died of medical reasons.

A woman yatri Lalita from Gujarat, who was injured in a militant attack on July 10 in south Kashmir, also succumbed in S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) early this morning. Seven pilgrims were killed and 19 others were injured in a militant attack on their vehicle at Anantnag on Srinagar-Jammu national highway on July 10.

One pilgrim from Telangana died due to a cylinder blast at Veesu-Mir Bazar, Qazigund, outside the Yatra area and two persons, an ITBP Personnel and an ISRO Technician died before the start of Yatra due to cardiac failures.
