Army holds a week long cricket tournament | 16 teams from remote areas of Reasi district participate, BBC club adjudged champion |
Sungri, July 22, (Scoop News)-With an aim to bring in communal harmony and inculcate sportsman spirit amongst the youth of Reasi District a cricket tournament was held at Sungri by Army under the aegis of Counter Insurgency Force Headquarters based at Reasi in coordination with Bagga Cricket Association.
The event assisted the Army’s efforts to promote positive youth development through sports and provide a platform to showcase the hidden talent of local populace.
16 teams from various villages of far flung and remote areas of Reasi District participated in the tournament on league cum knock-out basis from July 14 to July 21, 2017.
Bishan Bansi Cricket Club from Sungri was eventually adjudged the champion team after beating Malik Cricket Club from Bagga, in a keenly contested match.
Cricket being one of the most popular sport amongst youth of Jammu and Kashmir, the event witnessed an over whelming response both in participation and spectators. Over 252 locals turned up to witness the match daily.
All the participating team members displayed excellent sportsman spirit during the conduct of the tournament.
The Sarpanch and elders of the villages in Reasi express their gratitude towards the Army in its endeavours to motivate the youth of the region and bring in bonhomie.
They have expressed their desire for more such events to be organised and motivate the youth for choosing a sports career.... |
