Meet Sayim Mustafa a budding Cricketer

Nunnar is few minutes drive from the district headquarters in Ganderbal, past the paddy fields, and it is where Sayim Mustafa honed his talent. Pathetic road and congested lanes lead to the school playground, where Mustafa developed his keen passion for Cricket Sayim Mustafa’s journey so far has been wonderful given his achievements among the local ranks as well as the different teams he has represented outside. Bowling with Off spin and hitting the ball to all corners of the park with exquisite timing has been the hallmark of the all-rounder’s career so far.


The supremely talented all-rounder exuded confidence and sounded optimistic of “shining at higher levels.”The frolicking all-rounder from sounded pretty optimistic of breaking into the higher moulds. “I just want to represent J&K at the National level….And I am confident of doing it,” Sayim told’ in an exclusive chat while expressing his great admiration to play in the Ranji Trophy. Sayim, who represents his team—RCC—aspires to be one of the best cricketing talents in the central Kashmir.


He guided his team to success in Bandipora Premier League last year by fifer in the final besides scoring runs from last four consuctive years thereby winning the accolades by exhibiting a great all-round performance. Coming from a middle class family, Sayim says that I lost my father in 1991 when I was just 4 years old. The road to this journey has been full of potholes for the young cricketer march towards achieving great heights in the game.

The all-rounder has already proved his mettle. Starting his Cricketing Journey from the Playgrounds like Govt High School Nunnar, Qamaria Stadium, Gadoora Stadium Sayim’s rise to the top at the state level-has been Exemplary. Steering Clear of all Odds and overcoming the failures in him. Sayim scripted his success story by mixing his preservance and patience with the talent he has abundance. The Zenith in Sayim’s Career came when he starred with the willow in JKPCA for Srinagar Gymkhana Sayim top scored in the Tournament with over 300 Runs-Superlative feat winning him the best Batsman award besides fulfilling his dream of Representing J&K in Mushtaq Ali Memorial Trophy earlier this year, 28-year-old Sayim Mustafa became the first cricketer from Ganderbal district when he represent J&K in Mushtaq Ali memorial T20 trophy "I have been selected for JK team. It is a big achievement and proud moment for me," Sayim said.


Naming a few mentors, he says that Manager of ACC Aabid Pathan was Instrumental in guiding my Career.”There are others also who shaped my career. how can I forget to mention my Mother in whatever she has done to see me through to this stage of Cricketing life. Sayim while acknowledging the assistance offered many seniors as well. .It was that wonderful moment in my Cricketing life. When I hit a boundary against Manpreet Singh Goni delivering from a good height….but I had the last laugh as I scored boundary.’Sayim Told in the same match he took the catch of Harbhajan Singh and got injured playing at higher levels he adds is a different experience all together. We even run for every winning moment in Mohalla Cricket…imagine the responsibility you have to Shoulder in a Prestigious event like Mushtaq Ali Memorial..”said Sayim.doing the role of an opener for his team. Sayim may have played just one Mushtaq Ali Memorial Trophy game so far but the impact he has left in such a short stint is enough to prove his Credentials.


While regretting on the lack of Sports infrastructure in the state. Sayim believes that if J&K can get 25 percent of the infrastructure of other states players of International and National come up in big numbers continues to be the facilities were shabby and disappointing only better facilities ensure blooming of Talent,”says the dashing cricketer who loves the Crackling sound of his willow than anything else. Sayim did Masters in Public Administration and information technology inspired by David Warner he added “I am a great fan of David Warner how he overcome from Odds and failures is something which motivates me.” Sayim, picked up the bat at a tender age of 13 years. There is hardly any cricketing ground in Kashmir where this batsman has not entertained the spectators, even of the opposite teams.


The talented all rounder is hopeful of making it to the IPL. “I want to play Indian premier league and I am confident of doing it,” Sayim tells. Though he has played in all the leading cricket tourneys’ in Kashmir yet he is to play in the Ranji Trophy. Sayim, who represents his team ACC, “I scored runs everywhere. Wherever I played be it Sheri Kashmir Stadium, Professor Showket Ali stadium, Kashmir University, Pulwama or elsewhere he adds. “I have played in the big leagues of J&K like KDCL (Khyber Downtown Champions League, JKCPL (Jammu & Kashmir Corporate Premier League), (JKPCA)” “I don’t remember the exact number of runs that I have scored. But I am sure that I have scored 8 centuries till now. Three at Gadoora Stadium My career’s top score is 113.
