Three Day long Cultural and Heritage Festival – Expressions of Incredible India Concludes at JU
Jammu, September 15, (Scoop News)-The three day long cultural and heritage fest Rangsutra concluded today at School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, University of Jammu. Sh. Chander Prakash Ganga, Minister for Industries and Commerce, Government of J&K was the Chief Guest and Chef Manjit Singh Gill, Corporate Chef ITC Hotels was the Guest of Honor for today’s function. Prof. R.D Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu presided over the valedictory ceremony. The function was attended by culinary experts of Chef Association of Five Rivers, Principles of various degree colleges and schools, NCC cadets and students of various schools and SHTM.

Sh. Chander Prakash Ganga in his address said that it is important to showcase the culture and heritage of the state and University can play a catalytic role in this regard. He appreciated the efforts of the SHTM in bringing together students on a competitive platform to promote the heritage and culture of our state. With Jammu & Kashmir being a tourism driven economy, he said that hospitality and tourism education needs a greater fillip and University of Jammu can take a lead in this direction.

Chef Manjit Singh Gill, Corporate Chef ITC Hotels emphasized that regional cuisine is the true identity of any destination. He said that our ancient wisdom on food techniques if leveraged properly can position India as a global food power. He emphasized on the emerging trends of wellness and sustainability and believed that discovery and documentation of regional cuisines can be a step in this direction.

Prof. R D Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu in his presidential remarks congratulated the School for consecutively organizing this event which showcases the rich culture of Incredible India. He appreciated the innovative nature of the event which brings in people from industry, academia and civil society to deliberate on issues of contemporary relevance.

Earlier Professor Parikshat Singh Manhas, Director, SHTM in his welcome address said that the School through student driven activities encourages them to creatively execute various aspects and dimensions of tourism. He said that the School is perceived as among the top three tourism school in the country. With celebrity chefs being part of this event, Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas said that Rangsutra has the potential to become an international level culinary event in future. On behalf of the School, Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas also received the best event award for 2016 from Chef Association of Five Rivers (CAFR) who also made SHTM as their institutional partner.

All the winners of various competitive events received certificates during an impressive prize distribution function.

Dr. Anil Gupta, Event Deputy Coordinator made a presentation on career prospects in tourism & hospitality sector highlighting the different avenues the sector offers. Dr. Suvidha Khanna, organizing secretary conducted the proceedings of the function while Prof. Deepak Raj Gupta proposed the formal vote of thanks.
